I can't help but I would like to point out that the region of the magazine is very much important. :)

I can add that in the Xbox version of HL2 it's safe to only leave the language file of your xbox' bios set language to chop down on the size. which will be about 1-1.5GB if I'm correct.

    And under that...

What planet are you on if you think this demo isn't copyrighted? Technically illegal.

Surely if you want it, $2 isn't an extortionate price to pay?

XBOX Magazine demos have been shared here before ...

Its a shame that the entire XOM demo collection in Underground Gamer was shutdown along with the tracker.

Yeah, not sure why were complaining about demos being shared, heck some are unreleased games that happen to have demos, but are demos all the same.

I used to have all discs from 8 to 45 or so and tossed them years ago when I needed the space. Nobody here was interested in them and nor was eBay so away they went.

I just hope the years of Nintendo Power back issues are safe with my parents in Washington. I haven't seen them in years.

RichardX, why do you want the demo, please? Is it different from the released game (i.e. different enemies or the demo is set in an area that the official game never visits, like the way that the demo of Half-Life 1 (Uplink, I think it's called) is set in an area that doesn't appear in the release version of Half-Life 1).

I know that early preview videos of HL2 showed things that didn't appear in the finished game, such as a watery sort of snake thing, and the Combine operating in less scripted ways than in the final game).

I do not know what is the difference between a demo and final, I have not played the demo yet. Therefore, I would check it out.

Funnily enough, I examined the files/structure of the HL2 demo before & found that it is pretty identical to the final, nothing of interest. If you just can't live without the files, I can probably dig my stack of OXM Disc's if I get the time and energy to search for it.

If you want to check out true beta content, get the HL2 Beta or the HL1 Alpha. If you want to see some more beta material, get HL : Initial Encounter to find some files with differences (Textures, Models, Animations) or get things like the Source Particle Benchmark or other tech demo's released having to do with the Source Engine. Other than that, most of Half-life has been picked clean.

I messed so much with HL2 back in the day, that I actually successfully compiled a couple of my own maps (slight visual problems) for use with the Xbox version. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to achieve nowadays, unless I could find the old Vrad, Vvis, Vbsp (compile tools) that are the correct version that had -Xbox command line support. I have found early versions that have it there, but it became defunct. BSP version's changed in between HL2's release and the later updates, meaning that if you try to compile a map for HL2 on the PC it's version will be 1(?) higher than what Xbox supports.

One thing I was always curious to try would be to compile a map for the 360 version of the Orange Box, but never had a 360 with the capability.

Demos are fine to share, they always have been as far as I know.

I have the UK edition of this demo, and the playable content is identical to the final. You get the entire Ravenholm chapter to play, which is pretty damn generous for a demo!

The only obvious differences are a couple of "Available now" messages on the loading screens.

I can't seem to find the right driver for my capture device, but I'll try and grab a few images using a camera next time I unpack the Xbox.

    Hope that helps.
