I don't know how they can really call this HD. The original consists of low res 2D Pre-rendered elements with a few 3D models overlaid on top. They didn't remake the original 2D Pre-rendered elements. They simply took the old low res images and upscaled them, then sharpened them. And it really shows. It looks really awful. They only modified the character models. Widescreen is Vert- (Cropped) Which further compounds the fact that this is true. I'm surprised the PS3 and 360 versions will only run at 720p. I mean, there is so little 3D actually there. Just look at high res screenshots rendered with dolphin http://theologygaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/dolphin-2010-12-26-02-46-00-26.jpg http://img.techpowerup.org/090807/DolphinIL 2009-08-07 17-20-44-25.jpg http://sfx.thelazy.net/static/media/presetscreenshots/Dolphin_2013-04-27_13-11-55-33.jpg http://i2.minus.com/i3SSosuYM5EwK.jpg http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/86595 Sure they made it more palatable in higher resolution. But it's not the justice such a masterpiece deserves.
I'm not sure that that's the case. They didn't remake the backgrounds, but they might already have higher resolution versions of them, as people have already mentioned. You can't really tell from the images they've shown. I hope they're using hi-res backgrounds.
It is capcom, im sure they still have the models and such they made the pre-rendered backgrounds from. Would be almost no effort required to open them up and have it render at 1920x1080 as opposed to 720x480. If they do just upscale the backgrounds, that would be an amazingly lazy effort by them.
Oh for sure, im well aware that companies lose source and assets quite a bit, but were talking capcom here, lol. With the amounts of ports/rehashes/etc that they put out, they definitely have their files still
Well, given that Umbrella Chronicles was in 3D and used the models they used for the pre-rendered backgrounds for REmake.... And we also know that they have a higher resolution texture library (some of these textures they've accidentally left included in titles - they accidentally left the high resolution skin/face texture for Fiona in the files in Demento!) which they still have access to as again, some of these models were reused in newer titles. So both of those combined, it seems fairly likely that they have the lion's share of original assets from REmake.
I don't know. I looks like a Remaster than a Remake to me...... But still since it has a PC/Steam release its cool.....
Seems like a very lazy port to me, If this is coming from the original source material then they would/should be able to figure out how to make the backgrounds TRUE 16'9 not this cropped bull crap that they are using. Seems like another capcom money grab, instead of doing something great like giving fans what they have been asking for.
Pretty much so. Like I said - Umbrella Chronicles was in 3D and we've already got all of the models out of that and Darkside Chronicles. It's not particularly hard to set up the Mansion and re-render the majority of the backgrounds and do some slight tweaks post-processing to get water on the floor of the underground laboratory's hallways and the like. Given they've marked that it's still a work in progress build, they could be using placeholder backgrounds. They only filed the trademark update around Christmas last year and it only got approved a couple of months ago across various trademark registries so there's still plenty of time to sort out the backgrounds. I am glad that they finally fixed the colour issue on Jill's textures to blue. Most people are calling this one "REmaster" as the REmake/REbirth titles are confusing a few people too.
I've been waiting so long for this. I'll import the JP Biohazard disc if it hopefully comes with multiple language selection, or I'll just settle for the digital version. *if they aren't being lazy. If the bgs are upscales I'd rather buy a GameCube as I was planning previously.
Japanese Biohazard HD Remaster site says that there's a specially recorded and/or remastered version of Wesker's Report & Wesker's Report II being included with the game somehow. Doesn't really say if they used the original voice over by Richard Waugh or if they've had either Peter Jessop or D.C. Douglas re-record the audio for the first report or what's being done exactly but they're being included as a bonus apparently. Nothing on this on the English sites and I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere either. I already have the eCapcom Complete Edition pre-ordered for this release. I'll be getting it on Steam too, I hope it's a proper port instead of running kinda emulated so we can get some decent modding done to it.
