A beta version of the fall update was leaked (link is dead anyway so removed -a) Well we tried it and apparently it attempts to download the update and it fails.... Could be interesting to decompile it and see what we can find, or maybe even try to get it running on devkits for that matter
The version that has been leaked was built on Monday July 18 at 6-7 AM, three to four hours before MS' E3 Press Conference.
The update is legit, unfortunately it wont get you very far since as far as I know (I may be wrong) the installer's xex requires 2.0.7159.0 minimum on the libraries to install (that is why it fails) so you need this very specific version (or higher) installed first before installing the leaked update, and this one hasn't been leaked. Good luck. Finally if you own a debug kit you may try to convert the xex files, patch them and flash them on it but I guess it may require specific kernel imports which are not existing on the currently lastest available debug kernel (6690 if I am not wrong)
I've tried patching everything and copying the stuff over, and no luck . I'm using the newest kernel too, not the 7159 but the 6990.
I checked the Bin image before I burned it, it has the system update folder that is needed to update, but it also has the update and some other random shit that usually arent in updates. Ive never seen an update that also has seperate parts to it. The actual update is only 6.7mb but the other parts to it are like 20+mb. I hope somebody figures out how to install this.
Ask E3 staff, that's most likely who leaked it in the first place, I would not be surprised if yet another huge supply of demo kits suddently come up on the black market....
I would be surprised if they actually do not go up, more and more halo3 wanabe hackers wake up everyday being told about the oportunities to hack their favourite fps game with a debug kit and show off their "mods" to everyone after taking pics, vids and uploading them on the internet. Lame if you ask me though. Some are even stupid enough to think they can login to retail live and cheat with debugs. They probably even thing these run their retail games natively (without patching). Anyway 360 debug prices are reaching sky high so far and mostly sold for higher prices than ps3 test nowday. Of couse demo kit prices will drop someday because those are crap next to actual devkits or even test kits but not anytime soon. (just as ps3 test prices will drop when people will figure there are TONS of these arround at game studios and in press and that they are not rare at all, they are just as rare as ps2 test are)
I was hoping itd go my the simple Supply and Demand rule, more supply the prices go lower..but i geuss i forgot about demand :[
Actually there were 4 of us who did this and after wards there hasn't been one single other person doing it. The creator decided to show the people and released 2 videos, that was it... We really never encourage anyone to get a devkit for that matter, and yes unfortunately I think it was the cause of the sudden upraise in devkit prices In order to stop this, we have been clearly stating that if you acquired a test kit for this purpose you will not receive any tools from anybody in order to mod it, and making these tools is not a walk in a park for those inexperienced
Not to mention that most kits on the black market are sold without the XDK softwares and those are most likely not the easiest thing you can find by far xD.
I dont understand how these "kids" are getting the idea to get dev hardware..When I was a kid i didnt even think about how my games were made, I didnt even know about any type of dev hardware.
Yea ive found alot of Dev 360s..too bad ive been broke latelly :[ well maybe not broke just not enough cash to give out 1200$+. EDIT:anyways back on track, if anybody has a way to install this on a retail system ill pay cash for it :]
