I have an infectus chip also so I can test this out on both my system and a friends system which I'm just finishing with the infectus2 install. My console has an infectus (original) installed and his has the infectus2 (with ribbon cable for usb)
Im pretty sure an infectus isnt all there is to it, the people who posted that said they got it running on X-S said they did some kind of private method. But I have no idea about this kind of thing honestly.
Does anyone know why it likes to work on the 1888 based kernel anyways? Is it something to do with 1888 being the first shipped one so it will receive any XBL updates?
I got an Infectus in my retail 360 (photo). Flashed it with 1888 and then upgraded. Works fine. The HD install feature is very nice
Care to show some pictures? Also what features are active and what is not? (if any) Have you been on xbox live yet? (I take it you don't use it for live) thanks
Here's a few screenshots... Except for the HD install feature, I havn't testet it too much... Nope. This 360 has never been online...
Seems pretty interesting! Thanks for sharing Consolefun  I take it theres no way to access the Mii rip offs then?
I haven't had time to go through the files in the NAND flash or on the HD after the upgrade, so I am not sure if the new avatars and stuff actually is stored locally after the upgrade.... but I havn't seen the avatars or related options in the menus when I have been signed in locally, so yeah, you might have to be on Live first to check out those... It depends a lot on the game I guess. HD is faster than disc for sure, but the speed of 360 DVD drive is not that bad IMHO, so reduced loading time is not the first thing that comes to mind actually. What I really like is that my 360 is much more quite. On average it is about 3-4 degrees cooler too. Another thing to keep in mind is that you still need to have the game disc in the drive for authentication, and that 360 HDs are rather small. So while it is a nice feature, it really can not be compared to the luxurious convenience of have a game library "installed" on a devkit. Any particular games you would like me to check out?
If its anything like the dev kit, texture bugs still exist in Gears, and it doesnt speed up GTAIV all that much.
Just tested Sonic from HD, and even with this game the "Now loading..." time didn't improve much. It was very quiet though. With regard to loading times I think it's comparable with a dev kit.
