The link is all in white so it wont really show up that great but here it is. (link is dead and removed -a)
I think this was an update that was run internally on retail consoles. Leo our 'friend' said that it tries to download from a local network address, this being the reason it doesnt work, because you arent on that LAN. But this raises another question, could we make an exploit if we prepare a package on the LAN for it to install? While it is likely that the file is signed, my thoughts are because this seems like a Beta they might not be.
I have been trying to get my dev kit to prompt me to install the update, so I can find the internet/local address that it is searching for using Xbox Watson. So far, I have not had any luck, I've tried burning it to a cd/dvd, that doesn't do it, i've tried putting replacing the original system update in games, then running the game, that still doesn't get it to prompt. Finally when trying to run the XEX (30 total) files, dev patched, I always get the unreadable disc error.

It's being uploaded to a place where there aren't any ToS :110:. I'll update the post when it's done. EDIT: here's the link: www.xbox-underground.net/x360-fall08-dashboard.rar
looks like Microsoft asked for the link to be deleted, one other proof they actually read this forum (since it was only leaked here and on maxconsole as far as I can tell.) The update on its own is pointless anyway

Little progress here on getting it working on retail....apparently it works on dev/test kits if anyone was wondering...
Haha sorry i meant to post the link. http://xhavok87.wordpress.com/2008/07/26/xbox-360-fall-dashboard-08-leaked/
And not to mention you don't see his Xbox with any indication its a devkit... You don't see software or hardware differences from a retail from what I remember seeing at that link... Nor do you see the dash boot up in his video, or atleast the one I saw...
Well it works on modded retail 360's with a Infectus 2 Chip installed for now, read Update # 9. http://xhavok87.wordpress.com/2008/07/26/xbox-360-fall-dashboard-08-leaked/
Ok, this is what I think its going on : Basically this looks like it installs on the 2.0.1888.0 (Base) Kernel. Therefore you need an xbox with that kernel (impossible to find these days) or downgrade it with Infectus modchip... Once you are on 1888 you burn the update on a CD-R then it says "Mixed media" on the xbox. then you restart your xbox then it will prompt you to update. (I could be wrong, but it looks like this is how it works on retail consoles)
There have always been people after dev kits, although they are often too expensive. From the genesis to the n64 people generally used backup units. On the psx and saturn you had action replay. Playstation 2 you use the independence exploit or a mod chip, gc and xbox is pretty much the same. The dreamcast had the ability built in all along It's only now becoming really hard to do development on the cheap.
