Check it out: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/04/02/retro-city-rampage-dx-keepin-it-retail-on-ps-vita/ Too bad i missed the PS4 release. The prices are insane right now.
You're not kidding. Even a used one is $145 with new ones ranging from $150-$200. I don't think there are any other PS4 games that cost that much.
Yeah. It's worse when we realized it only costed 25 bucks. It would cost 30+ dollars to ship it to me, but still. Even the guy recognized his mistake: "I had underestimated demand, and because it sold out so quickly, it didn’t get much press coverage (it was sold out before it got on their radar). The months following were filled with a steady flow of fans were newly discovering what they’d missed, crushed that it was no longer available (sorry!). Their only option was to go on eBay and pay 5X (up to 10X!) the original price." It would have easily sold 5.000 copies or even 10.000, and still hold the same collectible value. Anyway, i hope more indie games get physical releases like these. To be honest, i hope he releases a PS3 version.
Pissing of the people who bought it, thinking thatnonly 2000 copies would ever be available. It's one of the reasons he is doing the Vita release. It is, that's why he is only being able to do it after the game was succesfully available across all platforms. He's not launching it directly with a physical release. Then also mentions that being able to do it without an ESRB rating helped lowering the production costs. And i wouldn't be surprised, with all the support Sony is giving to indies with guys like Adam Boyes and Scott Rohde, that he managed to get a better price from the manufactured due to the limited production. Let's not forget that this Vita limited release announcement still is for the pre-order. It's not like he doesn't know what the production cost will be. For example, if 3.000 is the least ammount of copies to break-even and imagine it already surpassed it, why not do it?
I put down $121 for a sealed PS4 version, kinda crazy I know but the prices are only increasing all the time, I just pre-ordered 2 Vita versions for $30 each before the same happens again. Im sure i'll make some of the money back if I put the second Vita copy on ebay
Which was kind of my point. The vast majority of indie games would never be able to do this because they never reach that level of success.
Ahh, fair enough. I wasn't aware that was what he promised. Kind of a shame that others can now reap considerably larger amounts of money from his work. If I bought the original PS4 version I would WANT him to make more copies, not all at once but incrementally. The customer still maintains a relatively sought after and "limited edition" product for a decent amount of time and it slowly drops the CIB resale value of the game. I would want purchasers to support the developer, not somebody who bought 3 copies and can now inflate the value on. That's just me, though. I'm sure collectors will differ.
I missed the PS4 version so I already preordered a Vita copy. I should have bought the PS4 version when I first saw it but I thought it could wait.
Yeah. Really hoping he does a PS3 version though. Even with the expensive shipping, i wouldn't think twice.
Glad I got in when it went up. Trying to get as many Vita games as I can before prices skyrocket too badly.
