Either he is trying to say I am casual or he is trying to make the "most useless post of the year" award.
FFIII (JP) is the only FF I have yet to play all the way through (got half way through on a Dreamcast emulator, but the damn thing deleted my game). Sadly, I cannot justify using it in an academic paper like this until it has an official translation/release. FFV is part of Anthologies, so I plan to cover it anyway. I have a couple of "Tales" games sitting around here that if I have time, I will look into. I am concerned about adding too many more games due to time constraints. This is especially true with long games or games that just piss me off (Saga Frontier). I realize that I am probably going to miss a lot of different franchises and everyone has their own favorite. I also cannot do the pure strategy games such as FFT (even if you don't consider it an RTS, I have to).
Just a joke, man. We know almost every gaming site's reviews are shit ever since Halo 2 came out. Actually, Gamespot gave almost all of them a ~6.5~ for fair. I dont know what you would give them. They did say it was old, repetetive, and boring , though.
The .Hack series can be boring but this isn't a paper on the best series only. I was trying to give him a selection of RPG's that are different. Not to nitpick but games like FFT and FM are Strategy RPG's because they are still turn based. Real Time Strategies are games like Civilization and C&C Red alert.
Sigh...why play RPGs? Why not watch some over the top, bad movie, instead. You'd get about the same level of interaction. Wait. Scratch that. Just watch that movie "Over the Top" with Sylvester Stallone. It's hilariously cool.
Yeah, I am overly using RTS to just quickly classify the strategy games like FFT, FM and SF, especially since they really aren't real-time. And no, I don't have a job (full-time graduate student, soon to be doctoral). Well, I guess you can consider being a research assistant a job, but I don't. I have already done five years in hell, er, the workforce.
Well, I have already seen most of the "good" bad movies, particularly the horror movies. I've started to watch whole television series from start to finish on DVD (just finished 9 episodes of season 1 of Rescue Me last night).
Sorry for being a such a downer, but I'm just long sick of RPGs. I once played them all the time, but I eventually realized that though they might be pretty, and some might have good stories, they don't really have much gameplay. You know...just push "X" or "A" or whatever until the battle's over. Edit: I think I better leave this topic alone, as I'm contributing nothing. Have fun playing RPGs!
Yeah, I know what you mean, but I still like them. I like strategy rpgs like Fire Emblem a lot better since its more complex, but not too complex to understand.
I was feeling a lot like that after a whole bunch of RPGs, and a serious dry season - even more with FFX that really let me down. I played Grandia II, and loved it but it was too easy. But then, I discovered Breath of Fire V. IV is very cool as well, but I don't think this generation has given us a better RPG than BOFV. I, however, will play through FFX, and will finish Arc The Lad TOS once I get another PS2. I have my cravings, you know?
A lot of people don't play RPGs for the gameplay, but instead for the rich and complex stories. At least, when I still had time and was an avid RPG player, that was my reason.
Great point , Alien Workshop. I like the stories of the games. I dont like Casual reviewers that nitpick on everything wrong with a game, (im looking at you, Xplay), I like games with good stories on RPGs. I could care less on FPSs since its just about shooting stuff. Besides, during Tales of Phantasia, you had to hit combos to do special moves on the Super Famicom version which would have made it VERY annoying because they can miss and take time to type in, but the ROM version has it set up where you can do it with just the press of a button. The simpler the better, for most RPGs, but thats not the case all the time.
Plus some RPGs do require you to know micromanagement and actually have strategies, which is very satisfying, at least to me. With a good growth and management system, and a good battle system, it's bound to be hour upon hour of fun. Add good production values, narrative, and a good audiovisual experience... and, of course, many RPGs rock seriously. Weird, but I hate most RTS games with a passion, though.
I like almost every genre except racing and sports. Is RTS an RPG where the enemy doesnt have to wait for its turn to attack you, or is it like a tactics game, like Disgaea or La Pucelle? La Pucelle is SOOOOOOO hard, but not as hard as Baal, or even worse teh Uber Prinny Baal from Disgaea.
Updated the original post to mark the games that I have gone through so far. Dragon Warrior 3 & 4, ow... Those actually hurt...
RTS is like starcraft i think... good god good luck with the rpgs, this summer my goal is to play through all the games i havent beaten yet......hooray
