OK So I've found the S-Video cable and the action reply plus. Now it's time to dive head first into Saturn world. I have Nights on PS2 and still have no idea what the hell I'm doing. As Far as Saturn exclusives that I know of there's Fighters Mega Mix, VF Remix, Megaman/Rockman 8 (The REAL version anyway) Dragon Force (which costs YOUR SOUL) Burning Rangers (which will cost me my first born) Beyond those I'm drawing a blank, What's exclusive to Saturn THAT IS STILL exclusive to Saturn (not remade or released recently) And what games have their definitive version on the Saturn besides Street Fighter Alpha 2 and Mega Man 8
Exclusive or Best version I enjoyed: Sega Rally Panzer Dragoon & Zwei . Saga is good but not worth the $$$. Die Hard Arcade Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter Xmen vs. Street Fighter Last Bronx Gungriffon Vampire Savior Cotton 2 Lunacy Legend of Oasis Assault Suit Leynos 2 Bulk Slash Dark Savior Layer Section/Galactic Attack Mr. Bones Shining Force 3 Soukyugurentai Otokuyo To Consider: Princess Crown - On PSP but you should see the Sprite on a nice CRT. Duke Nukem 3D - Good Port.
GungriffonEX: Some of those games have either been ported or remade. Die Hard Arcade (Dynamite Deka) had a PS2 remake - a Sega AGES release. So did Last Bronx. Those are the ones I know for sure. I can't think of many other great "Saturn exclusives". A large percentage of Saturn games were arcade ports (often the best ports ever released), so those all get tossed out of the equation.
Street Fighter Zero 3 is the best port - the Dreamcast-version is a bit of a problem child. As for true exclusives, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru is probably one of the biggest gems on the system, but if Burning Rangers' price is your first born then there's no way you'll buy Taroumaru
Your right la-li-lu-le-lo. Forgot about the SEGA AGES games. Now that you brought it up, Theres a AGES port Panzer Dragoon as well.
The original PD was also a bonus in Orta. Saturn exclusives that I know of: The Game Paradise Keio Flying Squadron 2 Bulk Slash Saturn Bomberman The Digital Pinball series Fighters Megamix (no, we're not counting the one on Game.com) Steep Slope Sliders (by Cave!)
Let's not forget the best Saturn exclusives of all... the Virtua Fighter CG Portrait Collection and Photo CD Operating System! [/sarcasm]
Exactly, tons of exclusives. But if you want US released games, there will be not a long list. These costs - does it really matter? I prefer not to support this fuckin' eBay bullshit system "we will sell great games for hundred bucks 'cause they're great and we are greedy bastards" and just burn cd-rs, especially when I see some things like undub version of Magicknight Rayearth.
I don't know about the rest of you but playing some of these Saturn ports with a PS2 pad just feels wrong. Like I'm with my girlfriend but thinking about her MILF momma the whole time wrong. And the Sega Ages ports don't have alot of the extras the Saturn versions have either. Only one that I'd say is an improvement is Virtual On due to the dual stick support on controller and 16:9 option. PS2 Nights I'm not too sure about. US Games are an odd one for me I HATE long boxes but some games like NIGHTS, Burning Rangers and Mega Man X4/Mega Man 8 I want complete. The Rest I'm thinking of just getting as disc only games My lone Sega CD game (Slipheed) takes up enough space as it is. I'm also not a fan of the US Bios boot up (On SSF I use the Hi Saturn Bios) On the opposite end Japanese games I'd want as complete as possible. Spine cards aren't a must but 99% of my Dreamcast games are complete with Spine cards.
Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru is, and I imagine forever will be, exclusive to the Saturn. Played it the other day and I still get blown away by how well that game is designed. Other great exclusives could include: Batsugun Battle Garegga Hyper Duel Blast Wind And then some of what other folks mention. Though I absolutely disagree about PDSaga not being worth the money, that game is a fantastic experience and still one of my all time favorite games.
Unless the price goes down or I get a Japanese girlfriend to translate for me I think I'll be playing Saga emulated. Blast wind is a game I'm very interested in Though last I checked it was quite pricy ($161 on play-asia) but it's like Star Solider if Techno soft did it...it has to be good...but $161 good?
Blast Wind is, really, my favorite game of all time. That's not to say I think it's the best game of all time, but it is my personal favorite. I got it for $30 years ago when I was collecting all of the Saturn shooters (and I recall I spent about a year trying to find it and Crows), and it's one of the few I kept when I sold the ole' collection. Also, Tecno Soft didn't do the Star Soldier series. They did Thunder Force. Kaneko/Hudson did SS. Though Tecno Soft games are similar to the classics found on the PC-Engine back in the day (that is, tons of lives and similar gameplay).
I was saying it's as if technosoft did the series or if you rather if technosoft did the soldier series Blastwind would have been the result. 2 out of the 3 aren't bad, I have no real desire to play Bug
