Dual Analog without the use of Twin Sticks? That's what I meant. I can't vouch for Saturn mode in Nights since I haven't played the original on saturn (yet)
I believe the Saturn had a dual joystick controller made specifically for Virtual On. Kind of like the one Sony made for the PSX.
Nights on the Saturn is a fantastic experience. The graphics haven't aged well but the gameplay is still solid, even without the analogue pad. Even Christmas Nights is worth a look. Sonic Jam is a good game, the emulation is solid but the bonus content rules supreme, no Sonic game since has offered such variety. Last but not least check out Sonic R and Sonic 3D. Sonic R works so much better on the Saturn and Sonic 3D contains a different bonus stage which has never been ported to anything else.
Yeah I know about the twin sticks but you were all talking about a Pad that one holds in your hands. unless I am mistaken and that was what you were talking about
There was a set for Dreamcast too wasn't there? Anyhow, I know how half assed Daytona USA was on Saturn but I still loved it. Virtua Fighter 2 is pretty fun, and how can I forget Fighters Megamix!
Bug! had a PC release No one has mentioned Astal yet. Although the game could have been so much more, it was still pretty good
I find it weird that the first 2 Wipeout games ended up on the Saturn. No idea how good they were on the Saturn but I have a soft spot for XL (it has my favorite daft punk song ever in it)
The first wipeout game on the Saturn is turd but the second is very well done and even runs at 30fps. It looks so smooth. In fact apart from a few lower resolution textures and fake lighting, it's on par with the PlayStation game. Even loads faster but then again the Saturn was faster at loading than a PlayStation 99% of the time. Yakumo
Yakumo, I didn't think the first WipEout ended up being that bad a Saturn conversion, and while it's mentioned quite a lot you can barely tell the textures in 2097/XL were (slightly) lower than on the PlayStation. Apart from the lack of real time light sourcing, my only real complaint graphically was the decision to use "fake" transparency effects. Then again, it did mean the frame rate could be maintained - and in a game like this speed deserves to be the priority over what amounts to just a few extra coats of polish! As for mettleramiel's namechecking of Astal, I was playing this one earlier today, ironically enough. Come to think of it, I also had a quick blast of Congo The Movie as well, but the less said about that one the better. We poor Saturn owners didn't exactly get many decent first person shooters, apart from maybe Alien Trilogy and Lobotomy's very own trilogy of Exhumed, Duke Nukem 3D and Quake. Of course, even these can get boring after a while. On the subject of FPS titles for the Saturn, does anyone else remember Deadalus, or Robotica as it was known over here? That's not available on any other system, to my knowledge...
How I know there's no emulation, just ports. They injured Sonic 3D on Saturn, so much. Added a lot of not needed stuff (though fog is beatiful) and this european "dance-dance" music. Original soundtrack was a masterpiece and they replaced it with this...And they never released Mega Drive version in Japan, what of they thinking? Still nobody mention Deep Fear, there's US version available also. Absolutely awesome game which has thrilled action, interesting plot, its atmosphere and greatly directed FMVs.
I'm not a Sonic R Fan. I had no idea until a few days ago that Sonic was actually in Nights. Sonic was in Bug as well or so I hear.
The PC version is nice but I prefer the muddy texture look of the Saturn version. Not sure why, just do. And yes the Sonic games were ports, a late night and too much whisky made me say emulated.
