Any ideas on the last line.

You have the first line correct, at least. Maybe this thing is a prototype for the Saturn flight stick. As far as I know that's the only analog joystick Sega released for the Saturn. Then again, maybe it has nothing to do with retail hardware at all.

 

Didn't the ultra early Dreamcast kit's use Saturn controller-ports? Maybe this is an analog arcade stick test to accompany e.g. the Zombie Revenge port for Dreamcast.. just a thought.

 

The Japanese text you can't read basically says internal property. That is a very cool item. I'm sure I've seen it before at some point though. I'll have to have a good think about where. Possibly on this very forum many years ago.?

 

Just tested this on a retail Saturn. The buttons all seem to work fine but not the analog stick. There is a sliding bar to the right of the controller which has an unknown function. Moving both the sliding bar and the analog controller in random directions I was able to get movement a single time but could not repeat this.

Try a game like Nights which has analog support, then use the toggle

 

Very limited selection of Saturn games here w sports mostly. Any other Saturn games use this feature?

Put the switch in a position, access the Sega Rally controller menu.

Put in the other, access the controller menu again.

The picture of the controller should change.

Correct, I have one too, but the joystick is not broken on mine. Same labels.

 

I knew it Still cool to post it again with much better pictures. I wonder if there is a fault with the analogue side?

 

Can always swap trick NiGHTS to test it as well, if you can't find your demo. This is a very interesting item though, it's huge.

 

It is a slide. I'll try and pick up a copy of Sega Rally.
