I'm pretty sure the Unreal 3 engine uses Direct3D because they are utilizing nothing but DirectX9 (which is something the ATI excels at, than Nvidia) features which the Xbox360 will have a greater advantage over the PS3.
Your right. Wasn't the original Unreal an OpenGL game? I could have sworn it was. That's pretty much where I left off in the series. Personally I thought UT2004 was pretty weak.
2k3 was good, but 2k4 wasn't my cup of tea. Anyway, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, UT2k3 and UT 2k4 were all open gl games. 2k3 and 2k4 even have linux installers hidden on the discs (linux supports opengl) , and both have nvidia ads in them (at the beginning of the game, and in match)
Damn. I still run Doom3 and HL2 with some stuff turned off (some are because my videocard don't support directx 9.0c stuff).
My friend is running dual 7800GTXs, its awesome, but itll be interesting to see how something like that runs. Man, that PC was a bitch to build lol
For some reason I think that the Unreal series were big proponents of DirectX back in the day. Don't know now.
I saw this pics 2 days ago (well, except the close-ups) I know a guy who worked at Epic as subcontratist and has a few contacts there. He says the game isnt done yet, barely the engine and a few test levels. Those images are from a Quad (4) Opteron system, which means no one would be able to run it until the new Merom Pentiums come out (or the AthlonX2 4800 goes for less than 1000 bucks) Anyways, this thing runs in the same engine that the X360 exclusive Gears of War, so when this Unreal comes out (maybe for fall 2006) console gamers will already know what is to play in the new generation I was a PCero, but since the 7800 went for 700$ im really looking foward to a nestgen console, specially since the X360 is goin to be 1 year ahead of ANY PC (even the new pentiums) Lets be honest: today being a PC gamer is too fucking expensive >End of Line
Today is the cheapest PC gaming era. 10 years ago PC's were extremely expensive. I agree this stuff is still really expensive but if you want to play the best looking games then you have no choice. Consoles always fall behind PC technology fast and I don't think the 360 is going to change that. It will only be a matter of time when a PC game gets ported to a console and it has to be dumbed down so it can play on the hardware. With in a year PPU's will be coming out and they will completely change the way games will be. BTW: The 7800's go for less than $500 now.
Phisics Processing Units (PPUs). I see alot of hype with that stuff. The only maker is a company named Agea, and they are too damn expensive (like a semi-high end video card) Honestly, I dont see people buyin them. Maybe when they integrate them in videocards (and not as a stand alone PCI card) they`ll became a mainstream product. We cant compare the early 3D era (95-97) with today. With "soaring prices" I meant compared to 99-last year, when a good videocard went for 300$, and didnt loose their power so quickly. And the 500$ 7800 is the GT "crippled" one. And well, thats why im leaving from PCgaming, the X360 boost a wide array of possibilities, a higher "bang per buck" ratio than PCs. Im sick of constant upgrades and stuff. Lets say this is my personal take on this problems. I dont critize anyone who want to stay on the path.
Indeed, if you want XBOX360 type graphics on your PC you'll need at least 1500 U$S. Besides, it usually takes one or two years before PCs put up to date with new consoles, before that the best you can get is overprised and underpowered graphics cards an CPUs.
Sure if you buy a whole new PC. The great thing about PC's is that they are upgradeable. Just pop a better videocard in and your good to go. Also, I'm not sure where you got your info on PC's being 1 or two years behind consoles. PC's were much more powerful when the PS2 came out. When the Xbox came out it's CPU and amount of RAM were horribly outdated the only special thing the Xbox had was a slightly higher clocked videocard that was surpassed in very little time in the PC market.
Im mean here, im in Argentina As far as I know, the GF4 was already on the market, and Xbox sports a souped up GF3Ti. The X360 is diferent, it has 3 G5 CPUs (2 already kick butts) and a GPU from ATI thats due to release for PC in mid-fall 2006. In other words, even if you had the money its impossible to get a PC as powerful as the X360, for now..... BTW, is easier to take advantage of the resources in a console, thanks to their unified structure and the fact that they dont run on a OS. HL2 is impossible on a 700Mhz P3, let alone with a GF3. But there you go, running on Xbox......
That fucker is a triple core?!?!?!? Who ever said Microsoft is only losing $150 per console was full of shit.
If I upgrade my 9600Pro to a 9800Pro I will be able to push the graphic capabilities the XBOX360 touts and It will only cost me $130 at the most. One thing I find a turn off in buying the xbox 360 is the expensive REQUIRED accessories like the $100 20gig hard drive, I can buy a 250gig HDD for less than $90 (heres the proof: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=WD2500JD-R. Also, the 7800GT, which is "mid-range" within the high end graphics card spectrum costs $400 and can push more than the xbox 360 by itself, graphically. It has been, and will be for years to come, that the PC will always be ahead of the game as far as graphics goes. When the XBOX 360 comes out the PC will be ahead of the game already, in fact, it is right now with GPUs such as the 6800 series and 7800. Grant it, price is a factor for the consumer who can spend so much, so of course xbox 360 will be in favor for those who can not shell out $5,000 for a top of the line PC. In fact, for $5,000 i can buy a decent Acura Integra!! I hope you guys don't think that I'm bashing consoles etc.
