I've posted hi res pics in rar files above. I don't think anything is socketed, and I don't think there are sub boards either.

It looks like a prototype unit. The model number is probably DTL-H1201. I just noticed removed sticker on Segata Sanshiro's unit.

Early Rev. C silicon debug unit - I think his was a DTL-H1202, based on the fact that it apparently had a 220V power supply and the mechacon and boot ROM were marked "E".

Twilight: Wow, nice find! I guess you're in the UK, where did you find it?

TriMesh: Any idea if this system uses a regular BIOS, but modified CDROM firmware, or is it a modified BIOS?

This is not my unit. My unit is Japanese and it doesn't work.

I don't see why it would be anything other than a standard BIOS and a debug CDROM firmware.

Yeah, almost certainly a standard BIOS - the only debugs I ever saw that had a special BIOS were the very early Japanese ones because the standard BIOS left the "tm" on the screen even if the ID string was 4 spaces, and it looked ugly.

The only one I saw was the DTL-H1100, it weirdly has a region code of D. it's version 2.2 but has a date of 03/06/96 while the real 2.2 used in DTL-H1200, DTL-H3000 & SCPH-5000 was 12/04/95. I don't recall comparing them. Is this the one you were thinking of? It's not real early though, in fact it's the latest one.

For early debugs, so far I only know of "1.0j" being used in DTL-H1000 and 1.1j in DTL-H1000H & they were the same as the retail consoles. Although it's hard to tell what Sony actually shipped.

If you have a different one then can you dump it?

I'll try and find it - it was a very early unit, with the most notable difference being that the mechacon CPU was an OTP 68HC706L16 in a white ceramic package, not the plastic on that I've seen in the other DTL-H100x units.
