retrogate has sd2snes preorders now can't wait to get mine! edit: I am starting to search a good SD card to use, with what program are the benchmarks on the sd2snes homepage done? http://sd2snes.de/blog/card-list , anyone knows?
Just for kicks, I put a complete No-Intro set on an 8GB Transcend Class 6 SDHC the other day (my normal preference is to mostly have stuff I actually dumped myself, to keep the menus uncluttered), and it's showing .129/.295. The 4GB card that Stone Age Gamer threw in with my SD2SNES shows .614/1.021 - still well within safe limits for MSU-1 to work well, but a surprising difference, considering the 8GB card is fairly cheap crap I originally bought for an old netbook. So you might be surprised... Anyway, more than 2/3rds of cards shown on that page are green. If you want to play it fairly safe, I would suggest maybe getting something on this list that's green, has an especially low access time, and is in the size range you're looking for.
thanks Eyedunno ! is this the card you have by any chance? http://www.e-shop.gr/show_per.phtml?id=PER.554497 unfortunately there is only one 8GB "green" SD card on the official list (I believe this one )
My SD2SNES should be turning up monday, and have a few questions: Since i just ordered the PCB and no case, is there anywhere that has any labels for a an NTSC-US cart? What games do not currently run on the SD2SNES? Is it possible in the future to implement an option where high scores in games can be saved, as only the later SNES games had battery saves which often saved high scores. Can an option be added so high scores will be saved for all games? thanks
Nope, mine has a blue label, and looks mostly like this: The rainbow at the top cuts off at orange and darkish purple though. I assume that's just a difference between the printing and the mock-up image. Might be basically the same card as the one you linked to though; I really don't know. I also don't know if SD cards have manufacturing tolerances and I just got lucky with a fast card. Ironically it doesn't matter for me, cuz I have no plans of using that card for MSU-1 - I just put all the official releases (and prototypes) on it for fun and in case there's something I want to try before I buy. Here is the incompatibility list for the PowerPak: http://www.retrousb.com/downloads/incompatibilitylist.html Basically, stuff that uses RTC, ST010, DSP2, DSP3,DSP4, and Cx4 will work on the SD2SNES. SuperFX is in the works (but is not yet supported in the current firmware), and S-DD1, SA-1, and SPC7110 may be next (though not necessarily in that order). ST011 and ST018 are probably impossible. When and if those four chips (and especially the first three) are supported, compatibility will be close enough to 100% for most people not to care about the three remaining (and pretty obscure) games. Also, SD2SNES is capable of playing many (but not all) Satellaview games, which the PowerPak cannot (not without hacked roms, anyway, of which there are very few circulating).
I tested all SD cards I used with MSU-1 games to make sure there wasn't any issues. So far every SD card I have used has worked fine.
you will receive an email AFAIR I am also waiting a SD2SNES from the current batch the site states it as "Back Ordered" still, if you get some ETA please share it with us !
Firmware 0.1.4 is out: http://sd2snes.de/blog/archives/256 @TonyTheTiger: If this update doesn't fix the "Pin 1" issue I fear you need to return your sd2snes for a replacement. Sorry about that. :/
I noticed you had a lot of GitHub updates yesterday and was hoping this was coming very soon. The Cx4 thing is really awesome. I don't even care much for MMX, but wow. Even bsnes choked for me and X bit the big one.
Just installed the new firmware and everything works great. Is it just my imagination or did menu scrolling get faster? I keep all of my rom files in 1 folder and I feel like it is much quicker to scroll through the list.
Why not press the left and right directional buttons to page through the list instead of scrolling through? Or is that what you're talking about? I have a PowerPak too, and on that, I found it was best to put files in several folders (and mind you, I prefer to mainly use roms I've dumped myself, and I only have about 50-60 games - we're not talking complete sets here or anything). SD2SNES has made it plenty easy to have even a lot of roms in one folder. I put a No-Intro set onto an extra SDHC card for fun. In that case, it was still best to organize them alphabetically into folders, but even the S folder isn't too bad to navigate.
Yeah, it didn't fix it. The second I uncover the pin the problems start again. You think it's actually a hardware issue?
I just thought of something. Someone on GitHub has already put this up as a request, but I'll just expand on what I think could be a decent way to do it. I think multiple save files per rom is a feature a lot of people would like to see. However, the way the PowerPak handles it is kind of clumsy, involving an additional screen where you can choose the save. The L and R triggers aren't currently used for anything in the menu, right? How about using them to cycle through a certain number of saves (maybe 5 or 10, numbered *.srm, *.sr1, *.sr2, etc., or something like that) and display the current save number somewhere on the screen? Either that or L and R could be used to page through menus (this is how a lot of games, e.g. FFVI, use them) and left and right on the d-pad could choose saves.
