I am sure Game Genie support will be added eventually, but I assume he has bigger fish to fry like Super FX support. I have no idea if there a directory file count limitation. Honestly you are comparing the Super PowerPak to something that more powerful and much more expensive. My guess is that eventually the SD2SNES will exceed the powerpak in basically every aspect. Unless you really need a SNES flash cart tomorrow I would wait a little longer.
Having both the PowerPak and EverDrive for the SNES, I can categorically say that the PowerPak is not as good. I don't recall the PowerPak having any advantage over the EverDrive except PowerPak has 128mbit of Flash vs EverDrive's 48mbit. I do recall however, the PowerPak being very fussy with CF cards. The UI is buggy (press the wrong button and it tended to crash on me). If you have a SNES with a switchless region/display mod, then you cant save to the PowerPak, as you have to hold reset for a few seconds for PowerPak to save.
Thanks for the response! And yes i do plan on waiting for it. That and the mega everdrive are my last 2 i want (i have the harmony and nes powerpak). unless krizz comes up with a better nes flash cart then ill buy his as well. Scott
Why? Having to reflash every time you want to run a new game is lame, plus PowerPak can handle Star Ocean (or at least the neviksti hacks), if you care about that. As for the CF card issues, well, there is that, but once you have a card that works, it's wonderful. I would say sd2snes > SNES PowerPak > Neo Myth > Super Everdrive > MashMods > TotoTek I know there are others, but I know next to nothing about them... Interesting! I never knew this (obviously). Well, that's too bad, but I'd still love for it to be playable on a flashcart, via S-DD1 emulation or through a hack. It would be just one more game I wouldn't have to change out the cart for!
The switchless code was updated to allow compatibility with the powerpak. You just need to press reset TWICE within 0.5 second
Hey Stone Age Gamer I just found out about your store not to long ago and glad I did ^^' was wondering what's the difference between your Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition packages I tried to do a little bit of research but came up with nothing I'm guessing Deluxe are usually the first print or first run of an product with nothing added and Ultimate are the one's with later updates (DSP-1) I'm guessing the ultimate edition of the SD2Snes will be with added FX support?
Only the Super EverDrive has a Deluxe and Ultimate version. Main difference is that Ultimate version comes in colored cart shell and has DSP-1 chip installed. Deluxe comes in normal gray shell with no DSP-1 installed. It has nothing to do with the actual version (or "run" as you called it). There won't be an Ultimate version of SD2SNES because there is no need for it. SD2SNES does not use actual chips for its enhancement chip support. They are emulated in the firmware, which can be updated by the user.
1. Some sort of cheat code support will be implemented. I might resort to CHT files because they are easier to integrate into the menu as a comfortably navigable list. A cheat finder is very unlikely to be implemented. 2. The number of recognized files+subdirectories per directory (and simultaneously per card) is limited to 16382. This excludes unrelated files such as music or pictures as they aren't part of the database. I don't recommend putting that many files in one directory, though (makes it hard to navigate and takes longer to sort the file list).
You know what. Super Game Boy used to be impossible to emulate due to only the rom being dumped but not the CPU as well as the obvious chips not being able to be emulated at the time thing. But now with SD2SNES I guess that changes things on the emulated chips front as it runs all chips on emulation as long as there is a file for it available right? Well guess what was dumped for the latest Super Nintendo set? You guessed correctly!!!! [BIOS] SGB-CPU (World) I guess we now have that CPU available from a new No-Intro romset. This means that if you want to you can now add another bios already to the list. Only problem now is being able to make a linker thing so after you loaded the rom for the SGB model you can load GB rom files within the thing but that would require hacking in a list you can choose a rom in the Super Gameboy software. But then again theirs maybe an alternative option you can try like clicking on a gameboy file straight in the SD2SNES menu which the SD2SNES cart would then load both the CPU bios for the Super Gameboy and the Super Gameboy rom automatically simultaneously in memory so a Gameboy rom boots up just like the real thing? Things are starting to get interesting with all these bios dumps on the scene as well as SD2SNES coming out using them to an advantage on the cart. There is no SFX chip dumped currently but I guess we should be watching No-Intro Super Nintendo closely just in case it does get dumped like the rest have recently as they could help with SD2SNES bios impletmation to enjoy the rest of the games that can be played on the real deal within just one cart. Current list of special chips available from the set so far as research for SD2SNES: [BIOS] CX4 (World) [BIOS] DSP1 (World) [BIOS] DSP1 B (World) [BIOS] DSP2 (World) [BIOS] DSP3 (Japan) [BIOS] DSP4 (World) [BIOS] SGB-CPU (World) [BIOS] ST010 (Japan, USA) [BIOS] ST011 (Japan) [BIOS] ST018 (Japan) I guess we have most of them included other than SGB already right? Fingers crossed on a scene release of the SFX chip dump coming soon on whatever romset it would be great for that bios to get released before this comes to the market but if it doesn't I'm sure we will see it in a future USB firmware update if there were a dump of it ever getting released.
TEOL, you are very mistaken. There is no "CPU" dump. SD2SNES emulates these chips yes. But he doesn't magically copy the CPU with some dumping device. It's essentially reverse engineering these chips and recreating it on the FPGA. There is nothing to "dump" from the Super FX. The mentioned BIOS files are needed for emulation but that is just a software binary. That's just PART of the puzzle. Some of these chips have binary data to be dumped. Others don't, they are just a microprocessor that must be recreated on the FPGA. If it were so easy as to have a machine "dump" the CPU, pirates would have added support for these chips in copiers made back in the mid 90s.
If you wanted to play Game Boy games on your SD2SNES then Ikari_01 would need to create a Game Boy emulator that runs on the FPGA. This is what KRIKzz is attempting with the MegaED for other systems. Would be cool feature, but I would rather see Super FX and some other chips implemented first.
Aww yeah. I wonder. what's the Lithium battery used for? Is there a danger of it running out? Will you be selling this units or will we have to buy only form a buyer. Thanks
Just an FYI for those do-it-yourselfers. I have a board and already began testing its fit in some cart shells. It does indeed fit into a normal North American style shell, but it requires some extensive modification to the shell, and not just the obvious stuff like cutting 2 smaller slats at connector pins. The top of the board where the SD slot and USB connector are does not fit into a shell, the corner of the PCB catches slightly so you have to grind out some of it to get it to lay flush. Also the two tabs at the top of the cart have two supports running down the inside of them, these supports have to be removed. Honestly without a dremel or something similar I am unsure how you will do this. I know some people used just knives to cut slit for SD card on EverDrives, I am not sure if you can do that with SD2SNES. I haven't tried with Japanese/Euro or Universal shell yet, but my guess is the modifications will be similar.
