From all the indicators, with all the stimulus money gone we're in for
some serious shrinkage in the world economy.

Initially USA was fucked, but then it seems Europe was worse
off as they had massive debt to GDP.

Throw in Greece and Ireland and it's going to be bad.

I estimate 15-20 years recovery for the sleepier parts of Europe.

Asia seems insulated, but when europeans start cutting back it will
    affect the global markets.

In short, we should all move to Germany or Singapore lol.

I thought that we haven't got out off the first recession yet here in EU (greece).
It is gonna last quite some time to get out of the deep shit.

Germany? Do you make jokes?

And Asia especially Japan is quite a lot affected from the recession, since the exports went down to the cellar -> Car industries e.g.

Japan is fucked either way you slice it. The main difference is they will elect 8 PM's in 3 years and get nowhere.

One of my bosses is pretty Bearish. He said, "It's coming. Global depression . Get ready." Yet at the same time, there are plenty of shit jobs out there but most people won't swallow their pride.

But, hopefully you're prediction about this is as accurate about the upcoming Korean war.

@ASSEMbler: Seeing as how your in the money markets, what's your evaluation of Canada? Are they looking towards a crapton of problems given how closely related they are with the US

Everyone's related to the US... and the US to them. It's the ultimate game of dominos now.

Well, they're still in the first crack down... many soon-to-be-laws are still in the wording process. The biggest change that will likely go through is disallowing banks to trade derivatives.

Is this a case of there is no jobs available, or are these people just refusing to accept a job that is lower than their own expectations?

If I was hurting for money, even if it was working at McDonald's I'd do it until I could get a proper job in my own field. Anything is better than nothing.

It means they will have no money to pay rent or anything, basically no more public assistance. They're gonna be homeless probably.

And canada is looking o.k. to me, sure social programs might falter a bit but
they have nowhere the debt the usa has.

You sidestepped that question better than a politician! There will indeed be people that cannot find work, but you can bet your ass plenty of them if not the majority will avoid doing physical labor if they can milk the system.

People who just milk the system piss me off to no end. Back when I was working at a game store here in Iowa they fired the whole store because a few people kept complaining to corporate about the new contract. Almost 4 months after that mess two of them still are just living off unemployment and have made little to no effort to get a new job. Me I took a week to see my family since I hadn't seen them in three months, I swallowed my pride, and took a job at a Subway restaurant because it pays the bills! Even if you take a shit job you can still go on the job market and look for a better one. I would be doing that if I wasn't helping a friend start his own business opening a game store basically right on the university's campus.

As much as a shit economy sucks, some people do need an eye opener that daddy government isn't going to always babysitting you, and you actually need to do some work to make a living.

i've been unemployed for 6 months and refuse to apply for unemployment. even though people have encouraged me to, and quite a few people i know are unemployment.

i just don't like the whole idea of it. i don't know...

    Normal reaction.

Some people are clinging to job types that don't exist anymore.

Let's face it, if you were VP of mortgage lending for urban markets, that shit ain't comin back.

It's a lot different as you get older. I would probably not take a job at subway but if push came to shove I might take something in a warehouse. The problem is, once you have like 5 years of experience, you basically have lie on your resume to get a shit job b/c if you're over qualified your potential employer knows you'll leave the minute there's an uptick in the economy.

I'm wondering if I can't get a stupid piss-ant job because I'm overqualified... I should just leave my IT jobs off my applications. "No... I haven't had a job in... two years..."

All I want to do is be able to afford a 1 bedroom apartment. I can work pretty much anywhere and afford a nice little shitty place.

I totally understand why people need to "dumb" down a resume just to get a job. If you worked for Google, and suddenly your just trying to makes ends-meat at KFC, your best chance to land the job is to bend the truth a bit.

But the fact that people are responsible enough to take even a crap job to keep their families/themselves off the system is commendable enough as it is. People who don't do it because of pride, shame, or whatever are just cop-outs. I mean, no one is going to look down on you for trying to put food on the table for your kids, so suck it up and get responsible!
