Indeed. The Euro is loosing value every day. With the huge public debts rising in Europe, and the recovery of the US economy underway, I believe this trend will continue.

The uruguayan peso is also loosing value. A few months ago you could buy one dollar for 19 pesos, now the value is around 21.50 pesos.
This is some fucked up shit.

I wish I had a job that paid me dollars.... But hey, at least I have a job now, after 9 months of being unemployed!

Guys, this is right. Looks like he did a mistake.
I don't remember when in history one dollar was above one Euro in a Euro/Dollar relation... hmm, maybe 2001?

"when he first started his trip", If his trip was almost a decade ago...

Weird stuff. I know it's impossible for the Mexican Peso to go up in value, with us being a failed state and all...

But all this week, going back home from work, when I pass by the banks (I see three on the way) I see the U.S. Dollar consistently cheaper. It's dropping in value, and it's going fast.

Right now it's at 11.92 at HSBC. It was 12.72 or so like... last week.

    What gives?

Actually, the value of the Euro is increasing again. It took a huge dive with the whole Greece thing, going to around 1.19 USD, but now it's up to 1.29 according to xe.com.

A side job is a possibility. Most salaried jobs in the USA do not offer over time though. Unless I am being conned.

Well, I don't get paid for overtime. I'm on a salary. It reflects well though. The side job is of course, selling games (which I don't do all that much of). But, the little it brings in does help.

I don't know where you're getting this idea that white people are afraid of hard work, I don't see what someone's race has to do with it. It's not like white people are genetically predisposed to office jobs.

Well anyway, I suppose it would be good news if I get laid off that I could move to some shitkicker town in Texas and support myself working at Burger King. I am still rather leery of testing that theory though.

It's part of the persona I have to give off as a minority. Don't take it too literally. However, I will state that any time I've gone back to the states, none of my friends seem to have any problems at getting off work and being at a bar by 5 o'clock. Sure, it could be a select few, but rush hour seems to start at 4PM, so the math isn't that hard.

Well, you wouldn't be testing much of a theory. There are plenty of indexes posting the cost of living by state (plus DC). They are based on hard fact. I had a good one that had all 50 lined up. Overall Texas was 5th cheapest. Cali was 3rd most expensive, next to Hawaii that has to import everything. DC was 2nd. My only guess is NY was lower b/c outside of Manhattan things are a bit more human.

Been there, actually doing that, and it's not like the movies.

To start off, the guys in their early 20s like me, we're a minority: in every meeting, reunion or party of the IT startup scene I've gone to the vast majority were 30-40s, not 19-21 like the guy from FB, thats what mass media says so the story gets more interesting.

Now, while base costs like hosting have gone down, complexity has gone way up, so now to make anything really impressive you needs lots of funding (or lots of people willing to work for FREE:rolleyes:). 15 years ago you could slap together a portal with HTML and call it a company, not anymore.

Then theres the BS: some VC guy I was talking the other day was forcing companies he funded to make only twitter apps, even when there's no market in it and twitter iself cant figure how to make money at all.

ML? I know the guy who made it, meet him in spain, his name is oxlenford I believe. Now he's making a craiglist-like thing, but with some SPAM-SEO tricks.
