One french seller specialised in modding/repairing game systems (otaku-store) used to sell white sega "neptune", basically a modded multi-zone megadrive II with a multi-zone 32x. Very good mod, btw
I don't know if this seller made it himself (I presume not), but selling it has new and sealed.... I don't think putting the guts of a second hand 32X inside the guts of a second hand megadrive makes a brand new device.
Sure, find the original injection molds and you could make as many as you want. I'm sure something similar could be replicated but not 100% exact. Not sure a retail Genesis board will fit inside with a retail 32x board either. Speaking of which I disassembled a VA1 and VA2 Genesises yesterday and ran the top half of the case through the dishwasher. Didn't do anything for the scratches and nicks in the cases but they look factory fresh now.
Might play 32x!! If you look closely at the cart flaps, they are 32x one's not megadrive. I have modded a model 2 megadrive into a Neptune, works great. just dont have the skills to make a repro case.. believe me i've tried.
It's a shame they had to use the most beat up consoles to do the mod. If they actually got new-ish looking machines, it would look quite stylish.
I think 99% of the world population don't have the skills to reproduce that case, that's why I asked.. maybe here resides that 1%
Could one of these Famiclones be cannibalized to make a hybrid MD/32X Neptune? If so I can see a cottage industry -albeit a very small one - that's being severely neglected.
Chip china clone lol. Here many kind of MD2 in Russia. All cost from 25 to 35$. I think I need to buy 5-10 cloned MD2, 1 Blue Paint... and than i will open some lots on eBay with Sega Neptune Devs Set only for 500$ each. P.S> Write me on eBay that u from Assembler and I will make 5$ discount. ))
It looks like a very poorly done version of this… MD2 & 32X mod, again done by some French guys. (as mentioned by cyberguile above) http://www.otakus-store.com/article-33102950.html
