The New Neptune spec : http://fgn0nline.wordpress.com/2011/06/04/sega-neptune-spec-sheet/ ^^ ----->[]
Is anybody interested in joining me in some effort to recreate the sega neptune case ? I think if enough people are interested we could try to convince somebody over at some plastic factory to create it for us What do you guys think ?
I didn't say it looked anything like the Nomad...but I'm 99% sure this is the picture that everyone talks about when they say it looks like a Neptune. In fact I think it was ASSEMbler himself who first pointed it out but the original post was lost in a forum reboot. There may be another Famiclone elsewhere which is closer to the neptune mould but I've looked everywhere and I'm yet to find it.
A bit off topic but I came across this Neptune mod on youtube , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-8k55lpi9c it blows the original one out of water , just thought Ill leave it here , as some where talking about creating a case... PS Not my video.
I said Model 3 not Nomad. This is a Model 3 - http://superclassicvideogames.com/800px-Sega_Genesis_3.jpg This is a Nomad - http://www.modojo.com/media/features/128/nomad.jpg
The Neptune in that image is on display at the Classic Gaming Expo museum. I am unsure how they obtained it, I assume it was either loaned, donated, or purchased from Sega. I saw it at CGE2K7 in Vegas. To replicate this casing without an original would be very very tough and very expensive. If you were to obtain one of the originals and make a mold from it would technically be illegal if you did not have Sega's permission. At one time I was told by a Hyperkin representative that AtGames wanted to use the Neptune mold for a Genesis clone. Sega wanted to charge an arm and a leg to use it so they decided not to. I don't know how true all that is and I am unsure why Sega would want to charge a ton more money to use this mold since it was never used for anything anyways. It seems getting any money from it would have been worth it.
I tried that a while back but never finished the project. It's defiantly doable even be a novice. You will need a few slight case modifications for the joypad ports and the out at the back but apart from that it's not so tricky. I did cheat though and not use a 32x, just a Mega CD and Mega Drive 2. Yakumo
