    Sega Saturn Problems

I foolishly tried to put audio jacks in my Saturn to go along with the S-video port, and now I have a hissing in the audio. How do I fix this? I remember that I put a little more solder into pins 2 and 3, and now I can't don't know what to do.

    First: Check for snakes inside!

Second, make sure the cable is properly grounded.

Third, try rerouting the cable inside. It may be picking up interference from somewhere like the power supply.

Check your solder points most mods that have problems are from improper soldering.

I fixed it, and it works... until I installed the modchip. I put the red wire from the second from the top pin, as the instruction said, now the PSU is busted and I've a blinking green light. Does anybody know what fuses I should replace it. I'm really hoping it's a fuse problem. It's for a 64 pin.

Blinking light = there is a short. Fix the short and it should start working again.

I'm not sure where to fix the short. I think I caused it by melting a little bit the plastic around the pin where I"m supposed to connect the red wire to the +5V. It caused that metal part that's supposed to connect with it to go back a bit, though that's not much of a problem.

Bad_ad84 remember our previous argument about this topic? Well, I stand corrected.

    No? =/

I fixed one of these very recently, it was just a wire from the mod that got caught by one of the screws.

Found the real problem. I shouldn't have used 30 gauge wire when soldering to the board because the heat from the iron easily strips away the insulation. I redid it with thicker 24 gauge wire. Then, I found out that an improper hookup the ribbon cable, to the modchip and to the motherboard was causing the blackouts and hissing sounds. Everything works now, and I'm enjoying my game with S-Video. The Saturn A/V cables somehow make the screen quite muddy, which is weird since my Nintendo systems don't have that problem. Sega must have crappy control in that department.

If you have both S-Video and composite hooked up to the TV, try removing composite cable and see if the picture changes. On some consoles I have, I sometimes get checkerboard pattern with inferior composite and S-Video cable.

If you don't have composite hooked up yet, try that. Use quality video cable.

I think I'm using the original Saturn A/V cables.
Though I wonder like that Sony IC mod for the SNES, if anybody has done the same for the Saturn. Then again it's not needed, considering the FMVs look like crap.

Glad to hear you figured out the answer to this question - basically, you broke it, you're going to have to find out how! There are too many variables for us to tell you what you've done, really.

Ultimately, I can't understand why people mod Saturns for audio and s-video when you can get an s-video/audio lead.

I think the price of such a cable put people off.

I'm doing fine with the Saturn now, though I find it odd that I have to reset the system when I turn it on, as the Action Replay won't load the game at first try due to the modchip. And after playing an RPG for almost an hour, the damned thing suddenly shuts off. It still works, but I would like know why it did that.

While true I've got better things to spend that money on. I need to procure a new SCART cable for my N64 as well as SCART cables for the PS2, Genesis 1+2 and a few others but the price is a bit off putting as they aren't requisite to my world. Composite is decent enough for testing purposes.

The modchip doesn't affect the Action Replay's ability to boot. Or at least it shouldn't as far as I understand things.

The Action Replay does act kinda odd, especially when the Saturn loads games at launch without it.
