i cant find any info on this mod you put into the battery slot. its cheap to buy at $8.50 shipped other s-video cables are going for $36 and up. if anyone has this or knows anything at all about it id appreciate some info. thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Saturn-s-video-/261153024393?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item3ccdeee989
Check this page: http://www.gamesx.com/avpinouts/saturnav.htm Pins 9 and 10 are for s-video. What this thing does is basically tap off the pins in the A/V port and send them to the plate with the standard plugs in them. Notice how the listings says "requires soldering". That's because you need to solder the wires from the added plate to the pins on the A/V connector for the proper signals. Looks to be s-video, composite, and stereo audio. 6 wires more than likely.
Is there still room to change the battery or use a VCD card with this? Just curious. If I got any video mod, it'd likely be component. At the moment have an RGB cable.
okay makes sense. so would you do something like this? should i pull the trigger? its really cheap but i dont want to miss up my saturns i just got them. but as a plus side im very handy with a soldering iron. im in the middle right now
I've never had any trouble using my regular S-video cable I got from (Racketboy?) (Out of stock right now).
Not sure since my Saturn is in storage ATM. If I were to do something like this, I'd move the battery to another location and put a rechargeable one in. Also put in a good VCD card so I never have to worry about that again. The real question here is this: is it worth it? All this does is eliminate the need for the official cables. If this thing + s-video cable + audio cable is cheaper than an official s-video cable then I'd say go for it. Who knows, you might even get a better picture if you use one of those high quality s-video cables with it.
I'm curious if picture would be better this way, as ive heard the official cables seem to have slightly better picture quality than 3rd party ones.
+ time it takes to solder it in. + risk of lifting pads and killing the console due to being a cheapskate over the $5 price difference. Id say not.
The average Joe won't notice any difference between the official (or even 3rd party) s-video cables over some mod job (which could easily be worse due to mediocre work). S-Video cables will still blow your mind to a degree over any composite connection.
Stop trying to be a smart arse. If someone really wanted they could find a screen with RGB. la.li.lu.le.lo has a screen with RGB as do other US members. They all use Sony PVM monitors
Is SCART really that rare? Honestly it's on fucking EVERYTHING here. It also (from experience) really temperamental as opposed to composite in terms of coming loose.
Yes. The US did not adopt the SCART physical connector as an industry standard. Even if you find an RGB monitor here, it may not actually use a SCART socket of any shape or form. There are other rare methods like DIN, d-sub, BNC, etc.
I'm a bit confused, what's the point of this mod? There was an official S-Video cable for the SEGA Saturn, I have it.
