Money raised does not mean people can insult him... They should have been more polite and used any left over money to get him a scanner.
Hey chaps the Game Gear TV tuner manual has been uploaded. http://www.smspower.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=74061#74061
Sega 16bit manuals have been started to be uploaded on Sega-16. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthread.php?23228-Sega-Service-manuals-16bit (Same link as above) IC specifications, 32X with 32X service bulletins added. That will be it until I go back to work on monday. I will be doing the Mega/Sega CD manual which due to the size might take a while to do. I will be numbering the pages manually for ease as at the moment it is just paper thrown together.
There were others buying? I stuck a second copy of some of the Saturn ones up here for anyone to compare with the ones Omp uploaded. I honestly don't see much / if any of a difference myself between mine and his - I think his might actually be clearer. And it looks like I misplaced the A4 scans at 600dpi... I remember getting a FILE STORAGE ERROR from the scanner... That scanner is going to make me go Office Space on itself one day... Edit: Oh yes! And this looks to be MOST useful to fix this screen shaking I've found on my 32X units... Promising! :encouragement:
There was a cock up with the 32X service bulletin's. There were 2 copies of the same bulletin (008). I will fix the PDF on the weekend and see what I can do about the TIF (may have to re-scan). To answer Bad_Ad84 There were only 3 manuals I didn't get/receive Game Gear VA0 - Partly uploaded I believe on SMSPower (by Gear for Games but has been "water marked"), I am not sure what is happening with the rest of it. *EDIT Yes they mention someone else is going to scan the other copy that was sold. Mega Drive model 1 - Spritesmind seems to have gone quite Sega 16bit Accessories - Spritesmind (as above) In Spritesmind's defense the guy getting them is in France, so again no idea....sorry. I know people are keen for the Mega Drive model 1. RetroJunkie When I scanned my lot I scanned the PDF's in small chunks then combined (either with Adobe Pro or PDFBinder) them at the end. I would do the A4 sheets 4 at a time and the A3 sheets 2 at a time. Doing this kept the file size around or under 10MB so were easier to manage.
Ah I just noticed the duplicate too! But thank you, otherwise I might have just went right past it and not found a potential solution to the shaking video! That said, I am not entirely sure even Sega knew what they were doing... since it is also on bulletin 12... hmmm...! Well it just seems that the VA4 Mega Drive is a not a good candidate for the 32X without those modifications. Time to modification it up! One day... :loyal: I thought I was supposed to scan them as big as possible and others can downsize them as they please? Ah well - there's two copies floating around now! :smile-new:
Yes I scanned them at 600dpi (PDF and TIF). The TIF's aren't a problem, just send the buggers through, but PDF saves a larger file. At my work it sends the PDF's to the email so size can be an issue. So what you did was correct, have no fear on that.
Phewf! Still got them anyway, I would like to give another shot at the title on those A3 sheets to see if a tweak of the contrast might make a difference. But with half the scan not on the paper to begin with it's sure going to be an uphill battle... hahaha! Thanks again for all your work, looking forward to more goodies! :friendly_wink:
I have started to scan the Sega/Mega CD manual, it will take a couple of days due to the size (over 100pages) and that some pages are single sided, while others are double sided (have to feed it in a couple of sheets at a time). I have a thread in General Gamer on these forums asking for translation help. I also got a quote from a translation service, 10cents a character. Did a rough calculation around $1400AU (give or take) to translate the Japanese parts to English. Some of the IC's can be found on Google in English. I picked one at random, MB3790 which is a battery backup IC, so these sorts of pages aren't to bad. When done I will upload the manual as it is and hopefully someone will be able to translate it for us. Some of the pages I don't hold too much hope for as the text is originally small and maybe to hard read.
Thank you for that, I have sent a preliminary (preliminary because it has a slight cock-up) TIF copy to fellow forum member here to have a look at. There are just under 40 pages of text that need to be seen to, I have only checked out that one IC but it goes without saying the custom IC information will need to be translated. Unfortunately I think this manual may have originally been foolscap size as on somepages some text is missing (mostly the hand written pages, which knowing our luck would have the "juicest" bits). I am currently uploading the PDF version, it is the full 600dpi greyscale PDF so it is sizeable. It is only the A4 sheets as this bastard took a while to scan, I wasn't to impressed when I got back to my work computer and saw the cock-up in the TIF version! Ah well got to have a giggle I suppose. I should have the A3 schematics and TIF versions tomorrow. Edit I just had a quick look at the IC information, Google found- 68HC000 (of course) MB3790 TC511664 TC51T32P LC8951 MB8464 LC7883 LC7881 PC844 the other 2 or 3 IC's would be custom and these are the key to get info for. (Link is same as before to Sega-16 forum) Have added the A4 PDF of the Mega/Sega CD service manual, this was a bastard to do as some sheets were single sided while others were double sided (if I hadn't mentioned it already lol!). I should have the re-done A4 TIF version and the 2 sets of A3 sheets done in the next day or so, I ask patience as my wife and I are going out tonight, so it maybe tomorrow night I get them uploaded. Notes for the Mega/Sega CD manual. 1/When I got this manual it needed re-arranging as the sheet's were muddled up. I numbered the sheets as best I could in the lower left (apart from the index sheets of course), so I beg your pardon if you aren't a fan. These sheets had no reference to each other it was like it was slapped together as they remembered stuff. 2/I have left the sheets un-numbered for the Japanese "hard check" as these will have to translated, I did however number the hand written in Japanese IC 315-5548 sheets (these will have to be translated as well). I have had 1 volunteer from these forums to translate but he (understandably) can't promise a time frame. If I get other volounteer's I don't mind co-ordinating and having it shared amongst people (I am not sure if that is a good idea or not?). Cheers Pete
Well, the community should be more grateful that he's giving them anything, really! Some comments there certainly weren't needed. Now, I took this in jest... but if you think about it, it's kinda offensive. Has anyone ever approached me with the suggestion of a pile of cash to scan them? NO. People just seem to think that, because they haven't seen it, they have some God-given right to get a copy. If you want a copy, find one yourself and pay for it yourself, like I did. And yes, I had to make the owner a substantial offer. Let me put this clearly and simply - I don't share my dev software and my service manuals because they are MINE. I paid a lot of money for them, and don't feel like giving them away to people who demand I do so as they need them, without even making any offer of compensation for my time and effort. You can thank Antime for me not wanting to share my Saturn dev software, when he stated that he didn't care that my Grandmother was on her deathbed and that's why I hadn't responded to his impatient demands. He hadn't even scanned them, and is getting grief. THESE ARE PHOTOCOPIES. As I said, photocopies of service manuals are usually CRAP. And, for your information, I deal with PDFs for web and professional print for a living and it is perfectly feasible to get the file size down without compromising quality. And, whilst it's great to scan at high resolution, releasing a 600dpi version would be overkill. Umm... scanning in colour and scanning in greyscale produce different file sizes. Furthermore, scanning a comic book with probably 90% coverage will produce a larger file than scanning text that's probably 40% coverage. There was also mention of "if that's the best your scanner can do" with regard to scanning TIFF greyscale 600dpi - more than sufficient. A 300dpi JPEG file would be fine, too. That's a bit condescending, isn't it? Likewise. I could teach anyone how to use Photoshop for basic editing in 10 minutes. And then, when told that everyone was sounding rude and snobbish in their posts..... Maybe not to OMP, but that's pretty rude. As for being prepared to sink money into them, nobody was stopping anyone from bidding themselves - PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS. Plain rude. Umm, yeah. Not OMP, but very insulting. No, that's being picky. PDF is the natural choice for distributing documents like this. That's why the electronics industry do it ALL THE TIME. All that had to be done here was a message saying "I'll PM you". You then PM him suggested scanning settings, and how to send the files. Nobody needs to be rude, insulting or snobbish. This is what I hate about a chip-in for this sort of thing. Someone's doing you a favour by acquiring the material. They're spending their own time scanning it in. And yet you'll all bitch that they could have used better settings. Whilst you may have contributed to the fund, it doesn't give you the right to boss someone around. You can offer them suggestions as to how you might go about it, then see what they come up with and be thankful and GRATEFUL that they have done it at all. There's no need to keep saying "ugh, this is why I wanted to do it myself!"
Hey guy's, may I step in here please? While I appreciate people stepping in (THANK YOU!), I think we maybe past this now? All's well that well? As I said in earlier posts I probably (not probably - did) bought/bring it upon myelf, by asking silly questions and not inspiring confidence. I also should have maybe left the Saturn manual till last so people got a feel of what I was doing. My train of thought was that since these guys trusted me enough, I should do theirs first (and to be fair to me, refunds were issued pretty quickly). I knew to scan in the highest possible resolution (derp-that makes sense!) but I actully tried a scan in 300dpi but I wasn't happy with it as it added a "fuzz" around certain things (for example an arrow pointing at something). I knew if I uploaded that I would have my balls cut off lol! I am not sure if I would have gone so far as go seperated sheets though, sections, yeah maybe. I like to think I have uploaded as good as possible, if people want to download, resize, turn upside down, inside out, print out on colourful paper, whatever floats their boat! That is why I have done 2 versions, PDF for the folk that want near to 100% of these photocopies but has a big download or the much smaller TIF version for those that just want something to look at and don't mind 90-95%(eg the Mega CD A4 manual PDF=139MB TIF=8MB). I am just glad that they weren't all like the Mega CD manual! THAT was a bitch! I am glad that one is over! I am hoping the Japanese parts can be translated in that one... Again I thank you, but can't we all be friends?
