I swear this "Zach Morris's" articles are becoming a weekly thing. I really wish people would stop believing his bullshit.
How exactly has MS and Apple "got their hands full". Your talking about the wealthiest people in the business and they haven't got the time? But Sega who has no cash is a good contender because it has the time? right.
This whole "Zack Morris" thing was funny for about five minutes, but the novelty's certainly worn off by now. In case you haven't already noticed, this so-called journalist has a reputation in minus figures and clearly gets a kick from revealing (on an almost weekly basis, it seems) some new top-secret piece of hardware that a post-Dreamcast Sega could never afford to produce, market and support in a million years. First it was a new system based on the Lindbergh board, then it was the Ringwide/Ringedge platforms, and now finally he's claiming - and note the key word here - that we're to expect a handheld on top of all these previously wasted resources as well. Of course, he may be correct after all, but I'm certainly not that gullible... surely even a company such as Sega, that was once happy to burn money in this fashion, has learned some hard lessons from its past? To summarise, this guy thinks it's April 1st all year round and I can only wish there was something Sega could do to prevent any further journalistic dilution because if they ever did announce a new console it would be shot down by most as a result of this foolish boy's crying wolf!
As everyone stated before, Sega does not have the funds nor the infrastructure to release a console, if they did now it would be instafail.
As modern technology becomes cheaper it is naturally integrated in various retail products most of the time. As with any market, there's bound to be competing products about and this is no different of a case. The fact that there are gaming related applications connected to a screen, 3d non the less, doesn't seem strange. Last I checked video games use screens and nowadays videogames are found in every appliance with a battery and a processor. That's a pretty wide scope of potential devices - assuming SEGA of all companies is cooking something up just because they have had sex with Hitachi is wishful thinking at best.
Sega's history suggests that they're perfectly happy to license their game properties for most any new handheld device. I don't know if that's because they're genuinely enthusiastic about new technology, or if they're really bad at making decisions about business partners. Probably both. The two examples in particular I'm thinking of are Tiger's Game.Com and Mattel's Juice Box. Sega quite enthusiastically produced a lot of launch-day media for both systems, neither of which had any longevity. And the latter item wasn't even a full game system, just a video and music player. Come to think of it, the Nokia N-gage and all of the dedicated handheld systems from Tectoy and Radica probably fit the same category as well, which also featured Namco and Capcom licenses.
What does it matter anymore? Sega spread their franchises over so many formats now. We're spoilt for choice at the moment, we can choose to play whatever Sega title we like on whatever hardware we choose, a new console made of off the shelf PC components with a Sega logo embossed on the case will not make the experience any different or more magical.
Wut Aboot SNK???!!!?1?!!one:-0:-0ray: Now let me guess, is going to have 4 CortexA8 cores? the Apple A4? an IPS multitouch screen? 48-hour battery life? SEGA is dead, what we got now Segammy, is more than confortable raping the good old franchises and making some of the most craptstic games ever (albeit a few exceptions which are actually completely new franchises). Even when today you can drop one of the new OMAP SoCs on a case and call it a console (add battery, button and a screen and its portable!) the problem lies in the huge costs of marketing, which have grown more than 300% since the last time SEGA made a console. I'm not saying they lack the money: Segammy is swiming in it, they lack the talent to make it right, they are no longer able to make anything that stands above competition, unless they outsource (ie: Bayonetta) And on a side note, MS has its "hands full" with the Windows Phone 7, not the ZuneHD which BTW will get absorbed by the former the moment it gets released.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 still has an unannounced secret 4th platform. Could this be it?
