X-Arcade is awful, I own 3 HRAP, and if you mod them, are great. Mad Catz fighstick has a lot of problems, but it's very good if you want mod it. I want to buy one for modding, but they are still unavailable here.

All you need is a screw driver. SRK has a step by step guide.

should be about $48 to mod a stick with Sanwa parts.

I think it's cheaper to just get a Hori stick.

I dont know why you think MAS is somehow better then actual arcade hardware, considering they use bog-standard HAPP stuff.

The Mad Catz sticks were supposed to be really good and made out of real arcade parts and blah blah blah. Some dude from....shuryuken or something? was suppose to have helped them so it wasn't suppose to be like a usual mad catz product. I know there really hard to find now. Sucks if there actually bad or maybe you just got a crappy stick.

I have a DOA4 hori stick, which is an EX2 I think? I'm no pro with this shit but it's just okay. The stick is a little funky. The ball rotates and throws me off and the buttons feel like normal controller style buttons to me but I dunno, I'm no pro.

borman - bog standard happ? I like my happ parts - i don't use a MAS though. Over priced for what you get as for that dreamcast ASCII pad - ok the PCB broke. You still could have hacked a pad, wired to some sanwa buttons and stick, and used the really nice casing.

From what I've heard, the Mad Catz standard fightsticks are supposed to be pretty good if you manage to luck out and get one that doesn't break right away, the manufacturing problems supposedly make them pretty terrible choices if you're not gonna mod.

Personally, I use a Hori EX2 and am pretty happy with it, the stick seems to be a little imprecise though (at least one review I've seen online complains about the same thing), but it's not a huge problem for a not-so-great player like myself. :icon_bigg Couldn't even imagine playing SFIV on a standard 360 pad.

ASCII Stick FT (for Dreamcast) actually had a SANWA FLASH (or equivalent) optical joystick, which the entire joystick community has been petitioning SANWA to start manufacturing again for many years now. I'm sorry, but that is, in fact, one of the best joysticks ever. Seriously. I own both the Capcom and SNK models and have been using them pretty hardcore since release. They still operate as new.

What exactly are you doing to break so many joysticks? You seem kind of hyper. Good joysticks can take a lot of abuse. Just because you're doing something to the sticks that's causing them to break doesn't mean the sticks themselves are at fault or "suck".

Maybe I just got a bad FT. It was fine for shmups and 3d fighters but it never registered commands for 2d fighters.
I'm not even sure if the PCB actually broke in it either but something was rattling around in it again, with 2 severely autistic children in my home, the unbreakable can be quite breakable (they've mellowed but they're both banned from my room)

I think maybe it's just that I'm not good with Japanese sticks? If I play horrible on a Candy cab, and 3 different Japanese style sticks yeilded poor results for me then obviously it's gotta be me?

or maybe it's a combination of both?

That optical joystick in question does have a tiny bit more throw distance than what is typical. Perhaps you never got used to it.

Also, I know pulling any joystick towards yourself ("out" of the base) repeatedly or fiercely can weaken or break it. Just stick to the 8 directions, man! You don't need to wave it around your head in a victory dance! Sorry, I'm not making fun of your brothers, just you

I was never good with Japanese style sticks. I've played on Candys before and the sticks were horrible and unresponsive at least for me.

Give me a bat stick and I'm happy

GOH - add me on live to play SF4,SF2:HF, SF2:STHDR. or UMK3.
