We have alot of people snooping around, asking for risky and specific kinds of
    items in an odd fashion.

Please keep an eye out for unusual
    approaches that could be corporate.

I had another PM regarding this and ignored it completely. Do you want the details Kev? <If I still have them>

EDIT* Sent them anyway, so you can check.

Yeah, it was starting to seem as if every day new members were pouring in looking for hard to obtain items. Perhaps people should also refrain (on current material) from posting in those threads any response and certainly not the 'Get to the end of the queue, a few of us are looking...' - the 'You need to speak to member X...' posts would be best not posted either!

Yeah guys, don't bother trying to sell your stuff to people who make threads like "WTB: HKT-01 + GD-Writer + Blank GD-R + Manual" and are too lazy to type in complete sentences... Absolute time wasters...

I'd suggest denying access to the marketplace forum via the vBulletin permissions for those users with a number of posts below an agreed threshold.

    Lol ! Good one ! ...

This guy really want to USE the devkit he'd buy !
More seriously, I actually sold a Coder Cable to this guy you're quoting and he offered me 50$, I said yes (obviously for that price I couldn't say no), got paid, shipped, and I was very happy ...
It looks like he is pretty damn young though... But still he ain't a scammer (or maybe that he hasn't been one with me because I tracked the item.) nor a dealing-time-waster.

ON-TOPIC: I guess it's normal that Nintendo/SONY/M$ are a little bit pissed about this forum, and the fact that "normal" people can aquire devkits and promo stuffs! Just be careful with who you're dealing with.

    FG

    [EDIT]
@Paulo under me: I know nobody said that, I just wanted to be clear, and scammer ARE time wasters, but not always the opposite. I edited it be be a lil' bit clearer.

What part of what he said made you think he said scammer.

A time waster and a scammer are two very different things.

...or maybe just people who dream of a fortune by reselling on auction sites.

I'm just angry that I was kind enough to place that person's item on hold for a couple of months, then gives me some BS excuse as to why he can no longer follow through with the transaction. Too bad, that person missed his chance (sold long ago).

Believe it or not, I've actually responded to forum PMs just to receive one of those scam letters in return. It's crazy!

It went something like that. I didn't even respond to that crap but deleted it instead.

I don't want to bring this thread off-topic anyway. :110:

I was just curious, what do you do to those who you discover have registered from Nintendo and Sony (assuming they registered with those email domains), or even the one user you said registered with their BBC UK email? Do you remove them, or let them continue to roam the site/marketplace threads?

Im all for denying access to people with under say 10 or 20 posts to their name. Also they would have to be good decent posts.

And if the software for the forums permits we would make sure they have been a member for something like 2 weeks or more.

I know it sounds harsh but in the long run it saves all of time and trouble and keeps things a little more under control.

I second the motion on users must have a certain number of post before they have access to marketplace.

And for this forum. Date of creation is not enough to stop snooping IMO.

    the thing is,

first: users with low posting count asking for dev stuff - SUSPICIOUS
second: people selling dev stuff - then busting the buyers

that's whats going on atm in germany. paytv broadcaster "Premiere" sells hacked satellite decoders to watch paytv for free and busts the buyers...

i hope the game devs don't come to that idea...

so let's all keep an eye out on these happenings

I've had at least three people tell me they want to sell
ps3 devkits in the forum, no posts, etc.

The ip addresses were fishy too. Just be careful in
buying anything expensive, people are hard up
for cash now and scams are thelast thing we need.

Isn't that entrapment and illegal in Germany? I've not been following this so I don't know much about it. Who watches Premiere anyhow? ;)

You really think i.e. Sony would put up some PS3 devkits on ebay/forums just to bust the buyers? Also, shouldn't they be after the ones selling the devkits and therefore most likely breaking some form of NDA?

And what about past-gen devkits? Why would sony care if I obtain a psx devkit?
