Disney Owns Pixar, Lucasfilm, AND MARVEL now?

DO YOU KNOW HOW AWESOME THIS MAKES POTENTIAL KINGDOM HEARTS GAMES NOW?

Still with this news being the first thing I hear when I got my power back this afternoon I got REALLY REALLY excited. Lucas can't ruin Star Wars anymore, The Theatrical versions might FINALLY get released on Blu Ray!

    EEEEEEEE

Oh yeah and Episodes VII VIII and X

I fully expect to find out that The Emperor survived and was given the infinity Gauntlet and now Luke Skywalker and the Avengers must fight off the rest of the Empire...and Galactus

I'm pleased, but really surprised that they have already announced a new trilogy. Usually, most companies would wait at least a couple of minutes to announce new projects/products... :eek:nthego:

Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing that Lucas is selling the franchise, after the prequels.

Same here... For Star Wars it's surely a huge universe, enough to make movies for the next 100-200 years but, for me it's better to be none if it won't be same quality as the original trilogy.

Also isn't they are the bastards who push a new law every time when Mickey f....g mouse copyright is about to expire ? Now it's more than 120 years, and that's very bad because it allows companies to milk same franchise for eternity instead of making something new, and the worst part is that they pushing this shit globally.

Yeah, it's kinda creepy... will be interesting to see what happens though.

And poor LucasArts... if they haven't gotten a new president lately, I'm sure there'll be another shakeup soon enough!

Video games are good example of what can happen - a huge budgets, tons of visual effects and erm... mediocre result.

I figure the convo went like this

Disney: Here's 4 billion to never touch Star Wars again LEAVE OUR MOVIES ALONE

George Lucas: CHACHING. SCREW THE 4k special edition with the Luke/Leah sex scene I always wanted TAKE IT.

Really this isn't TOO shocking Disney hosted Celebration events and the immortal Star Tour Ride (which is no longer mortal) and I can't say I hate Disney, Marvel has been as epic as it's been in years since the sale. Avengers VS X-Men anyone?

Plus the Disney Channel and it's constant stream of masturbatory Material.

I don't think it's ever a good thing for a huge company to get bigger and bigger to the point that they have minimal competition. I wish we had tougher anti-trust laws in the US.

You do realize what what Warner, Universal and Paramount own right?

Waner has Looney Tunes, and DC Comics and some of the greatest movies ever made.

Universal controls Jaws, ET, the USA Network, Half the cable systems in the US, NBC and other things.

Paramount is part of Viacom, so that's MTV, Nick, Ninja Turtles, The Godfather and other shit I can't remember.

    Disney doesn't own everything.

Right, and those and a couple others own the vast majority of media in the US. There's competition, yes, but smaller companies are pretty much fucked. It's not good that the conduits of our culture are so concentrated and hoarded under just a few company logos.

Problem w/ a 3rd trilogy is that the original cast is too old to be in it and make it viable. Harrison Ford is the only one that's not goofy looking for fat, and I can't imagine anyone playing those people in their 10 or so years after Jedi roles.

If Disney would clean up and put the original (non-special) editions on BluRay, they could do whatever else and I wouldn't give a shit.

The 3rd trilogy could take place decades after the fall the of the empire thus explaining everyone looking older.

That would be awesome. But what makes you think that Disney is more likely to do that than Lucas was?

What I am surprised about is how cheap it went for. Disney made out like bandits on this deal.

I know four billion and change isn't table scraps but considering that the Star Wars franchise alone is like a magic cash machine I figured all those assets would have gone for way more. Think about it. Jobs got seven billion for Pixar (ironically started by Lucas) so the numbers for this deal just seem way too low.

I am having a serious geekgasam here about all this. Disney is all about film preservation and restoration, look at the care they give the movies that made the the 4 billion to buy Star Wars to begin with. So just having a Blu Ray of the original unaltered trilogy without having to bend over backwards to get the Despecialized torrents. That alone. But
more stories GOOD stories set in this universe that's even better. There is this huge universe outside the movies begging to be expanded on.

Ok show of hands... Old republic movies....

who is not jizzing their pants at the thought of that?

and I am just now realizing I am a way bigger Star Wars fan than I thought I was.

Lucas wouldn't release the unaltered trilogy on principle (and spite, definitely lots of spite in there too). The mouse, on the other hand, likes money.

I'm on You Tube no watching obvious Virgins bitch about this. It's hilarious.

I think the other reason Disney would release the unaltered Trilogy is because like I said they are big on film preservation.
