I'm not a Star Wars or Disney fan, so it's a wash to me. Let's just hope they don't start buying up gaming companies as well. Can you imagine how horrible a Disney/Nintendo/SEGA franchise would look like?
Sega were only good in the CSK years and it was because CSK had more than Sega at it's disposal to make them great. There was ASCII and CRI amongst others and their trade partners too. Sega was just a puppet. CSK pulled the strings. Sega went to shit after they were sold and the talent is long gone. Changing the puppet master to Disney wont fix that.
Apparently they can't release any boxsets without throwing some money at Fox because they still own A New Hope. As for them buying Lucasfilm and making sequels to the originals? Half of me does really think the world is coming to an end.
Knowing that Lucas is moving on seriously brought tears of joy to my eyes. He's butchered the movies I grew up on. Even if the next trilogy is half as good as Iron Man 2 or Thor, that still means they'll be 10x better than Episode 1.
Even though I love Star Wars and despise Disney, I'm actually okay with this. Pixar still makes excellent movies, so being bought by Disney doesn't automatically equal being turned to shit. I don't know how much control Disney has over what games Lucasarts publishes, but it would be great if they pushed for Battlefront 3, maybe a new X-Wing or Rogue Squadron game. As long as I don't see Luke and Vader in Kingdom Hearts, I'm good.
We will see Star Wars in Kingdom hearts. We will see wolverine kicking the Emperor's ass in Kingdom hearts. and I'm ok with that. But I don't understand why so many people hate Disney? Jealousy they make so much money? Belief that Walt Disney hated Jews (which is a lie) The fact you're a dirty commie and Disney is such a glowing example of Capitalism? what? why do people hate Disney so much do you lack a Soul?
I don't hate Disney, but I've never really understood the appeal. I love Pixar, but that's sort of a separate issue. Disney movies - by which I mean films made in-house by Disney and not one of their subsidiaries - are just so sickeningly cute. I can handle cute, but Disney goes overboard, I feel. One thing I really do hate (with a few rare exceptions) is musicals. Musicals make me cringe, and a lot of the most famous Disney movies are musicals.
If only it were that awesome, but you and I both know it wouldn't. If Wolverine was in Kingdom Hearts his image and personality would be toned down to fit with the happy Disney atmosphere (just look at what they did to FF7 Cid). Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Wolverine brutally murder most of the Disney and Final Fantasy cast, but Disney and Squeenix would never allow it. Maybe "despise" was the wrong word, but I just never liked them. Even as a kid, there was something about Disney that just rubbed me the wrong way. I'm not a fan of their cartoons or movies. I think the only real Disney movie I like is Lion King. The others are technically Pixar movies, so I don't really count those. The whole anti-semitic thing has nothing to do with it, for me at least. Even if Walt Disney did hate Jews, he's dead. I doubt his ghost is lingering around the offices at Disney HQ whispering anti-semitic propaganda in everyone's ears. Hey, there's another thing I can't stand! I've always hated musicals in movies and TV shows. When it tries to be cute, it's not. When it tries to be funny, it's not. When it tries to be romantic, it's not. Completely ruined the South Park movie for me. You couldn't go 15 minutes without everyone singing about something. I cringed I forget how many times.
I am a hardcore Star Wars fan and have been for many years. The news when this went down was shocking and honestly disappointing. You see, alot of us older fans remember Lucas talking about ep. 7-9 when Jedi was released. He then dropped the topic. Around the mid 90s he said "only six films" He kept to that for years. He even shaped the prequels and special editions around 6 films as one story. He even tacked on a new ending to Jedi to wrap things up. Also all those interviews where he talked about 9 films? He said that he never said that. Now Lucas is retiring and wants to sell the company. Lucasfilm, without the prospect of a new film, is not worth that much. So Lucas begins writing ep. 7 to drive up the price of Lucasfilm and make it a better property for Disney to buy. He basically turned his back on years of telling us its six films and "the tragedy of Darth Vader". There are even posts now on starwars.com showing how they talked about 9 films in the 80s as if it was always going to be that. The fact that Lucas lied to the fans for 10 plus years isn't talked about that much and the fact he went back on his word and is now creating some new trilogy. If they had made new films without the numbering it would have been much better. His only explanation was that he never ruled out other people making the films. Thats total bullshit. So I am in a way excited to see the new films but I was a huge Lucas apologist before. I can't say that I am now.
will wait and see how this pans out, not going to condemn it outright as George Lucas himself i think has completely lost the plot in recent years. fingers crossed and optimistic for the future was always a big fan of starwars and indiana jones growing up
I remember the "9 movies" thing, and even vaguely remember something about Lucas already having drafts for episodes I-III and VII-IX ready in the 90s; obviously this was a load of crap since why else would I-III have so many inconsistencies with IV-VI? Then again, Lucas makes up a lot of shit, for example, I doubt Luke and Leia were originally intended to be siblings from the beginning like he says.
Not sure what I think about this right now other then, HOLY COW ERPISED SERVEN EIGHT NINE OF STAR WARZ!
Exactly right about the Luke/Leia siblings thing. The theory is that when he made ESB, the Other was supposed to be someone revealed in 7-9. However during the making of Jedi he decided that he was tired of making Star Wars films and wrapped up the Other subplot with Leia as the sister who could have jedi powers. So Lucas not wanting to make 7-9 goes way back to 1983.
