after the MEH looking Basara X, the Broken as hell Hokoto no Ken and the horrible Battle Fantasia and being forced by Sega to whore our Guilty Gear Upgrades I was worried Arc System works couldn't make a good fighter again that was as good as Guilty Gear XX.

    Then BAM they did.

It looks gorgous and the music is awesome, but everyone knows that.
Even the story is decent, it kinda reminds me of Trigun.

The Control Scheme reminds me of a cross between Melty Blood and a way way way dumbed down Arcana Heart. (ok so most dojin games) They even took the steps to make it beginer friendly with an "EO" mode ala CVS2 on XBOX and Gamecube.

What amazes me is that this is the first fighter that's both beginer accessable and deep enough for Pros.

I'm already waiting for the sequel to be annouced. Story mode strongly hints there will be one even the Arcade mode endings do.

I'm going on a limb here... Fighter of the year...possibly decade.

Tried it again, and its still not fun. Street Fighter was more then accessible, and deep for pros.

I m surprised you claim to be such a big fan of the 2D fighting paradigm yet buy new fighters all the time- do you actually invest any time in being good at them or is it just an obsession? :p

In my experience "accessible, yet deep for pros" means there's a certain success rate w/ button mashing (above zero) which is awful fo ra fiighting game.

Depends on the game Street Fighter IV I can't be good in until I get a Good stick.

Blazblue I'm studying the DVD until I get the characters I use down flawlessly.

What I mean is this game isn't so complicated that those new to fighters won't know wtf is going onit's not over complicated also like CVS2 on Cube and XBOX there's an EO mode that uses the right analog stick

I hate fighting games where button mashing works even .00005% of the time.

yeah, like hit down-right twice to do a shoryuken. and only needing to do a half circle for some moves (like Zangief's spinning pile driver which usually requires a full circle motion). they made the controls a little sloppier I think. you don't have to be nearly as accurate with your movements as you did in past SF games.

I would have to say that the game needs to be pretty broken before button mashing becomes a viable tactic.

For games like SF-X, VS Series, etc, button mashing won't get you very far. Provided your playing a competent player, one person will button mash while the other will defend. As soon as the first player misses, executes a move with overly long recovery time, or makes another kind of mistake, the second player should (if done correctly), step in and make them pay for it.

A simple example is in SF3 where someone goes dragon punch crazy. You simply block it, then counter. In the case of advanced players, you can even go on the offensive by jumping at the player to bait them. When they dragon punch, just air parry them and counter as they come down.

PS: I can only speak for Capcom games. Other games, especially 3D games, may have different mechanics that make countering mistakes harder to take advantage of (better for mashers). But as far as Capcom games go, I'm pretty experienced since thats all I could play between classes in school, so speaking from a button masher perspective I'm pretty confident to say that they were non-issues at the arcade. Easy to kick off the machine.

Blaz Blue is a fantastic 2D fighting game. Big Story mode, good arcade mode and it looks amazing. This is a good reason to get an hdtv if you haven't gotten one yet.

The fighting system is alot like Guilty Gear, in fact most of the Blaz Blue characters have a Guilty Gear equivalent in terms of fighting styles and moves.

This is where I would disagree, i think it takes alot from Dojin games 3 attacks and 1 special button that reeks of Dojin Gameness.

Only Sol and Ragna are really anything alike. Jin is Ky like in appearance only IMO.

cannot wait, my copy should arrive tomorrow.
it looks like it's the most beautiful 2-d fighter(definitely in the top) from the screenshots.

My copy should be here very soon (cheers Alec), and I really can't wait. I should probably do that sleeping thing for a couple of hours before the Postman gets here.

Hopefully the bonus Blu-ray discs will be region free and work on a UK PS3.

Jin's C button mash attack is just like Milla's hair attack in GG, Hakumen is basically Sol from GG, almost the same moves.

DeckardBR? Is your real name Harrison Ford by any chance?

seconded for MvC2. It's much faster and arguably better than SFIV in my view.

Haha no, just a Blade Runner fan.

"Deckard, Blade Runner" is how he identifies himself late in the movie to some traffic cop. I just shorten it to BR after Deckard.

Wouldn't it be cool if Harrison played games? Hes too busy flying private planes for 360 and ps3 I guess. That would be an interesting thread, celebs who are real gamers.

BlazBlue comes off to me as visually impressive, but I'm just not feeling it. I've only played my copy once, new games shouldn't start collecting dust so soon.

Absolutely incredible; I'm really enjoying the game.

Due to not having a PS2, I haven't played any of the Guilty Gears since X on the Dreamcast. Hence this has come as a real breath of fresh air after SFIV, which I'm not really getting on with too well. I thought Battle Fantasia was ok and I've been playing a fair bit of HD Remix with one of my mates.

We sat down and had a good crack on BB yesterday though and we both agree that it really is an amazing game. It flows really smoothly and the character designs are amazing.

After reading people's thoughts on KoF XII I think I'll be sticking with BB, with some MvC2 thrown in for good measure.
