True, solve the reset issue first! But definitely give the cart slot a clean, it's bound to be pretty dirty.
You could just make a gamebit from an old pen if your in a hurry, that's how I fixed my snes and GameCube back in the day :encouragement:
As long as it powers on and it hasn't been corroded from the inside-out, it's nothing that a quick clean won't fix. SNES and N64 are tanks. lol, I actually got my first N64 the day Gamecube came out.
Oh boy the amount of N64's I have seen with a stuck down reset button..... (lots). It is easy to do as Bad_Ad has said, pop the top off and pop the switch out. It will be just dust clogged down the sides of the switch (Nintendo was a bit tight on the tolerance). It should still work even with the reset button pressed down (oddly enough). Test the board out of the console (don't forget the jumper/expansion pack) after cleaning BOTH the cartridge and jumper pack slot. Also whilst out of the case test the reset buttons function. I have had to strip a reset button once in the past to clean it out as it didn't work. If it works after that, give the console case a hot soapy bath and allow to dry. Hang on... There is a jumper pack in there? I have been fooled before...
I bought an Xbox on the GameCube launch day LOL. That being said, how can you buy a $50 loose broken N64 when at the same time you have access to this forum??? Sorry but that's just unreasonable, given the information you can access. I'd never pay that kind of money for a loose N64, let alone for one I couldn't test before the purchase. That being said, an N64 is pretty much unbreakable. Just open it up, clean the buttons and see how it goes. And next time just buy a boxed console for Christ's sake... lol. Even a mint N64 shouldn't cost more than $50 + shipping... I paid 45 Euros shipped for my RGB modded multiregion CIB JPN N64.
I paid $30 to a member here for a revison 4 model for RGB modding. Got another one from Fleabay for $20 and it was a revision 4 too. 3rd one was a 5 and thus no RGB... At least they all work.
Maybe in Australia. In Europe it's the cheapest retro console except for maybe the PlayStation... easy to be found for EUR 30 boxed. Japanese CIB consoles are around the same in Japan. US? No idea, but I can't imagine it's that much more.
Every now and then I will see n64's at my local goodwill for around 10,but its usually just the console only.
Well, the genesis they had looked even worse and I told them I'd be back for it. I will not. I bought my Sega Sports Dreamcast from these same people and it works flawlessly and has been working flawless for the 16 months I've had it.
WELL in my defense I didn't realize the button was jammed Until I was in the car. It looked ok on the shelf and the guy knew there wasn't an expansion cart in it.
Playstations are super cheap here, $15-$20. Nintendo 64 can go for $50-. Boxed is like $100 well on the world of eBay I should say. When a fly shit cover yellowed Dreamcast goes for $200 it's no doubt.
I should have gotten one of these http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-64-S...=UTF8&qid=1353390698&sr=8-1&keywords=Gold+N64
