$50 seems like a hell of a lot for an unmodded vanilla N64. My switchess region modded model 2 Saturn with access light was $60..
I forgot how much my Saturn was and My Saturn WORKS BUT it came with an RF switch I had to buy an S-Video cable.
What he said! The Saturn does awesome 2D, seems a shame to not display it in the crispest, most color-accurate form possible!
i'd move to a better country or import a tv and a rgb scart cable but thats just me lol, i have a Retro duo i'm going to mod it to add RGB scart when i have the time / parts as it only has composite and s-video as standard not good enough! :boxing:
If you remember not long ago I was pondering if I could pull off RGB to S-Video on a future purchased Genesis/Mega Drive we concluded that it's a maybe. For now I have to make due with composite for my N64 assuming I can find one that works. (unit 2 still on it's way).
The Bad news is...until I get a switch box it's sharing input with my saturn http://oi47.tinypic.com/nnuzgx.jpg http://oi47.tinypic.com/17d4c1.jpg
You can get some pretty high quality composite cables for the N64, official Nintendo brand, not sure where they came from. A friend of mine has one and it's almost as good as RGB from my modded system, in some cases the colours look BETTER with the composite lead especially on larger TVs. I wouldn't worry too much about missing out on RGB, the difference is minimal in some cases and it's a hassle to get perfect. Enjoy the N64!
not sure on the n64 as i've never had it going with RGB, but the difference in other consoles its huge, especially in sharpness and colour, s-video is a happy and easy medium. games like goldeneye 007 in widescreen mode and 4 player splitscreen on a big tv would be excellent makes me want to get one even more but then there's the issue of finding 4 good controllers lol
RGB for the N64 improves color and sharpness quite a bit. There are details visible with RGB you just don't get anywhere else. Doesn't make blurry textures any less blurry but at least their color is better.
why would you want to play a N64 without the blurry textures??? that was one of its main selling points back when it was released.
Blurry Textures are probably why I can live with Composite for a while... What I can't live with is my N64 having to share an input with my Saturn...time to get another switch box
i have my ps2, saturn, xbox, and a dvd player hooked up to the 1 tv via a rgb scart switch box and one other scart extension box with 5 ports should also be a wii being added to the mix once the scart cable finally arrives for it, and a N64 when i get one(things are gonna get crowded), i need a tidier method or a 2nd old school tv which i dont have room for.
I have a retarded number of cables behind my TV right now if D-terminal was done in this country it would be alot neater.
Same here, get yourself a SCART to component video converter box. BAM! Now you've consoles that can output in component!
easily worth it for both consoles and if you felt the need all you'd need to do was buy another cable for a different console. im considering getting a spectrum too no idea where im going to put it but i've seen scart cables for these also
