I actually disliked the movie... it was like they took all of the parts I hated from the other movies and put them into one.

Whats with an army of computer generated monkeys suddenly appearing to fight the soviets?

Saw it this afternoon, not bad. The whole Aliens/commies thing is a little blah.. (should have gone with a Dr.Evil type organization rather than Commies.) But since the Indy movies are supposed to be retellings of what were in the pulp serials before TV came along, it fits well. Commies and Martians were what the pulps were writing about in the 50s anyway.

One thing though, the movie seemed a bit more campy than the old ones. Like the part where Indy misses teh swing in the wherehouse and falls on the truck then remarks "I thought that was closer," just didn't have the same punch as in Temple where he's on the rope bridge being cornered from both sides and lets out a worred "Oh Shit..."

Plus the whole movie seemed to be one big chase scene to me. There wasn't much in the way of character development. Despite all this I rather enjoyed it, I've seen all the Indy movies in the theater (saw Raiders when I was 5, have vauge memories of it in a movie theater, and Temple of Doom was my favorite movie ever.) I'm glad to say this entry didn't totally destroy the series for me.

I enjoyed it, quite a bit in fact. The most disappointing thing was the CGI they did use, wasnt done all that well. But thats quite minor really. The movie still had the feel of the old trilogy, and was no more illogical then some of the old stuff (or any Lucas / Spielberg movie). Really, as I said, I enjoyed it.

Oh come on, everybody knows Get Smart is going to suck the big one...they won't be able to catch the flavor of the TV series.

the only thing that holds me back from watching this currently is the trailer, it looks kind of cheap... and nostalgic, but in a cheap way... wonder how well it does at the box office.

    i enjoyed it!

possible spoiler, don't read any further if you haven't seen it ;)

i really liked the whole plot about mayans, aliens and so on! it's general knowledge that almost every participant in the cold war was after some mental or psychic weapon. and it's also a general myth that mayans were visited by aliens 5000 years ago...you know that discussion. based on these points i think the movie was great!

He works for old chewed-up food, thats why

Actually the mayans arent that old, but there was another civilization before them in the same area.

BTW, I heard the movie happens in peru, is lucas retarded? the mayans were in mexico and guatemala, peru is like 3000 miles south of that.

    *spoilers*

I'm sorry but the saucer coming out of the ruined temple just seemed so ridicules and seemed a bit off for the indy series.

But in my opinion while its not a must see, I say it's worth a look. Not saying it was a real bad movie or anything, I mean there were moments I really enjoyed but to be honest I wasn't expecting much from this sequal.

I could sit here and complain they didn't do this or that, but hey I still got the originals and they haven't been messed with like the original star wars movies so I can't complain.

My wife was saying that they are making another Indiana Jones movie after this one. Harrison Ford will need a zimmer before too long

Your wife is in theory correct.

Lucas signed a 5-movie deal. This is the fourth.

However, considering that Ford said "This movie will either be done this year or never" to put pressure on Lucas et al, I find it unlikely that he ll do another one.

Maybe another indy film will come around, but I doubt Jones will have any large role in it.

    ** Contains spoilers **

    I thought it was shit.

In places it's like watching a poor comedy. Everyone is more invulnerable than the Kayote in the Acme cartoons - from being bullet proof to being able to survive drops of 100s of feet in a little jeep and come out smiling at the end. Indy survives a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge, which is then blown hundreds of meters through the air (the only thing that is - the rest of the house just disappears), and violently crashes and bounces across the ground. He gets out without a scratch. Roger Rabbit himself would have been jealous.

Then there's the part where a 60 year old woman drives the jeep off the side of a cliff - despite everyone else protesting - with a SMILE on her face. The jeep lands on a massive branch which she had no idea existed until they were falling to their death (or at least they would have if there was any realism). The branch slowly lets them down, gently bently, into the river and then bounces back up to kill some Russians. When the jeep is in the water she's like "See? Nothing to worry about!". How. Fucking. Lame. In fact I'm sure I do actually remember something similar happening to the Kayote in a Road Runner cartoon once... must be where Lucas is getting his inspiration from these days but he seems to have forgotten that he's making a movie about an adventurous archaeologist and not an animated picture for 7 year olds.

The plot is uninspired. CG is used to try and cover the gaping holes in the story but fails miserably. The skull is only magnetic to conveniently move the plot along from A to B but then quickly loses this magnetism once it becomes inconvenient for the script. Basically it's the Jarjar Binks of the Indiana Jones series - impressive CG but pointless, stupid, completely illogical and plainly shit.

I almost walked out twice. One guy actually did. I managed to convince myself to stay simply for completion's sake but left the cinema bitterly disappointed.

The audience laughed at times that were not supposed to be funny - they were laughing at how lame it was. The parts that were actually supposed to be funny were just embarrassing, such as "comedy" clown music playing as Indy knocks over some manequins/toys as he slowly tries to regain control of his limbs.

Do you get the joke? You see, Indy is now quite old so... here's the punchline! Get ready! So now he can't control his limbs! Get it? GET IT?? Cos old people can't control their limbs can they? Cos they're OLD! LOL!

Jesus fucking Christ. It's like you need to turn your brain off before watching the movie, or at least leave 100 if your IQ points at home.

Lucas has lost whatever skill/magic he once has and should be banned from making any more movies. You cannot polish a shit with CG, no matter how much it costs to make.

The movie's just an insult to everything that you remember about the original trilogy and deserves to fail spectacularly at the box office, but the sad thing is that due to the nostalgia that people feel for the original trilogy it probably won't. There seems to be a running trend here, doesn't there?

There's always one guy who takes thse movies way too seriously.

The thing with the fridge and teh bomb was a bit much... I agree. After he gets out, he's essentially standing at ground zero, observing the mushroom cloud. The heat alone would burn his flesh off.

But you know, rewatch the first 3 movies, it's not like they're these deep profound, serious hard boiled life changing films. It's the same shit as this one (they're just better done.)

I see the fourth one as good as the previous ones. What you need to account for in this comparison is the inevitable nostalgia and your age when you watched the old trilogy of Jones.

I see this as a worthy sequel, and enjoyable movie, and I doubt that it could have been better than it came out - it surely could have been worse.

Both Ironman and this made my year as far as good movies in the cinema go.

It was the most gay movie I've seen since LotR.

That Shia is embarrassing. And all the other stuff that was supposed to be funny, like the gophers. The teen in front of me laughed so much, I almost hit him.

I'm not even going to go in to the inter dimensional aliens part, but Blanchet was also ridiculous.
