Agreed. It looks like shit for starters and the gameplay mechanic just looks like a mixture between Metroid and Magician Lord: good if you like tedious games with massive amounts of backtracking and repetition but cack if you want to be entertained.

Gunlord looks cool. If you grew up liking 2d sprite based platformers on snes/genesis/PC, it will be fun. If you started gaming with the playstation or n64, you probably won't be able to get into it as much.

I started waaay before the SNES, Genesis etc and it just looks toss. Twenty years ago it may have been a different story but today, it just looks stilted and tired.

When it finally launches I'll try the inevitable torrent that will appear and if I like it I'll buy a copy but I'm not hopeful of being proved wrong.

This is exactly what my friends said about SNK games (neogeo ports) on the dreamcast when it was alive. The general idea being that Garou and Last Blade 2, as low resolution pixel games didn't have the "wow" factor and were therefore a total mismatch on the dreamcast.

I don't know how Gunlord is going to play, and I'm not planning on buying it for the initial sticker price of ~$50, but even for the GDrom releases, the redeeming factor for my DC these days, and the reasons why I still play it are 1) nostalgia factor, and 2) playability of the games. The graphics of the naomi ports really don't compete with PS3 or Xbox360, but I don't care. Using the same principles of nostalgia and playability, I'm not put off by Gunlord's low resolution neogeo style graphics, and I'm inclined to give it a chance. From the videos, the graphics and playability look more polished than Duke Nukem 2, Jill of the Jungle, Xargon, Biomenace or any other platformers I played back in the 90s.

If I wanted to Play Turrican I'd play Turrican or magcian lord or any of those.

It's one thing to pay homage or to make a shmup. But to make a game that lacks any originality at all like gunlord

Wow, just looked at the video and that's a HUGE Turrican ripoff.

I'm not too excited about homebrew releases on DC, to me they just scream "Hey, let's release something on this dead console just cuz we can!", especially since none of them have been that good. I wasn't excited about the last official releases either, since they just seemed to get extra publicity from being "the last DC game ever, for realz!" even if they weren't very good (Chaos Field, Karous).

I'm another who thinks Gunlord isn't looking that special. It IS a 100% Turrican rip off, which isn't a problem in it's self since Turrican is a fantastic game. What gets me is it looks as if it plays like a poor Turrican and the graphics are less impressive than Super Turrican on the SFC/SNES. It could play really well though but that's something we'll have to wait to see.

I'd like to see somebody do a fighter for the "dead console"

You can only do so many shooters and turrican rip offs

a fighter requires a lot of AI, something your avarage "home coder" can't deal with. This is why we hardly ever see any fighters. Plus there's all the animation too ;(

if MUGEN ever has its code released there would be a very very deviant fighter for the Dreamcast

there is a brand new up to date version of MUGEN now its already at version 1.0

Oh the broken messes that could end up on Dreamcast. There is a Mugen build for XBOX (original XBOX) that's VERY unstable

I don't get you guys; ANY game is a ripoff of something else. might as well say "I never played super mario world coz its a pac land ripoff"

you should be glad that they finally decided NOT to make a shmup for an old system (and thats coming from a shmup freak)
