I'm using a Macbook but I cannot say that I hate Windows, I just switched because I disliked the problems that my old Windows PC had and I wanted the easiest alternative. OSX is extremely user-friendly and I do not want to play games, that's why I ended up getting a Mac.

Mac OS 10.5 on a 10 year old powermac G4, This is my main pc that I use every day for almost everything that I may or may not replace with an intel iMac soon.
Windows 7/Linux Mint dual boot on a 4-core dell workstation, mainly for a few games, and for running 3DS Max
For school I alternate between a vaio running linux mint and an ibook g4 running 10.5
Mac OS is my favorite OS, and If I had to pick between linux and windows I'd pick linux...

I hate with a passion the people who hate mac just because it is cool to do so or it doesn't play games. Not referring to anyone in particular :p

OSX is a very limited OS when you compare it to others... I also hate it's formatting too.

I use Macs every week, and I'm forced to I hate every second using them. Also when the IT Department of your Uni doesn't fucking know how to network them properly I have to log in like 50 times to load 10 pages -_-... I'm not judging Mac on that but I just don't like the OS, I find it too bitchy.

^^ stfu noob you know nothing....

i am not tied to a single OS atall, my main desktop is Windows 7 dual booted with Mint linux and my laptop is a macbook bootcamped with win 7.

i personally feel that osx suites my working style very well so i tend to use it for my college work and use win 7 as my play os, and i do love linux but it has to be the most restricting pile of crap because you cannot get most of the applications that you use every day.

BTW im a Computer science student.... lol good to not be fixed against 1 likes some of my lectures 'Lecture cancelled due to me having to use windows....'

OSX 10.7 Lion, win8 developers preview on bootcamp... i use OSX for most things, only boot to windows for the few things i need. consoles are for games IMHO.

I love OSX's look and it "just Works" for most things.
I find windows a little clunky, and get tired of the never ending torrent of updates and reboots and worms and viruses.. shall i go on.
and I have only installed a linux distro once, and although it worked fine, it didn't wow me in any particular way.

Oh god, I'm a Mac fanboy.. how did that happen.. :)

I have just about every version of Windows and several Linux distros. As for regular use, it's always Windows XP, Vista, Ubuntu and Mint. Win7 & Win8 dev preview have made annoying changes to the interface, so they are rarely used. I fully ditched the Mac after OS9, OSX rubs me the wrong and Apple's prices are a little too high for what the hardware can do.

Yeah, that's exactly what I think about Linux. It's great for running a server or something, but in home use it's a complete pain in the ass.

I'm currently using win7, but I do like OSX 10.6. After that Macs began circling the drain.
I can appreciate Linux too but I never got fully immersed in it. I'm going to get around to installing arch someday.

I don't understand the whole "Linux is poor for home use thing". Out of the box the most user friendly comes with a good functional browser (firefox), one of the best video players (VLC), had to enable proprietary drivers but it worked just fine, I didn't have to install anything aside from a different desktop environment. When I wanted to play a few games I simply installed WINE off Ubuntu's appstore type thing and it played just fine. ZDoom didn't work but I was using a poor fanmade game instead of the real deal.

The whole no games on Linux type thing is bullshit. Just the other day I saw Skyrim running just fine on Gentoo through Cedega, in the related videos was a whole bunch of new popular games running well on Linux. Left 4 dead 2, RAGE, CoD MW3 etc and you know what was in each description? A guide to getting it running. The Linux community is built on this, do a little work and the rewards come, Cedega etc are probably seeing these fixes and incorperating them into their software. Ultimately the community makes or breaks Linux and if everybody does there bit I think Linux will one day be as functional out of the box and stand upto the more mainstream operating systems.

I don't understand the whole OS X is too restricted and locked down thing. Fair enough when it comes to hardware but then I believe those people who care about gigaflops and all that shit need to go outside more.

Games aside I dare anyone to come up with something life/work changing that a Mac can't do.

    This ^

Right cause my personal opinion on Mac makes me know NOTHING at all.
That's the most stupidest thing I've ever read from your posts in the entire time I've on this forum.
You're right, I'm no computer science student... I can not like an OS of my choice, it's not like I'm just hating on the OS cause I feel like it.
Just so I can clarify, it was my personal experience using a Mac for my study.

Really? You are on a forum for the absolute cult like of collectors and game developers. If you had bragged about how much pussy you were getting you would be right on par with takeshi right now.

The only thing I truly object to with Mac's is the price - It's horrible. I understand its for people who may not know how to build/hackintosh but for me I would never pay up. Certainly not full price.

In my opinion it all depends on what you want to do with your computer.

In my case, I use Ubuntu on both my notebook and my work computer since I use them mainly for programming and I find Linux-based systems way more comfortable than Windows for that kind of stuff. They bring a lot of features out of the box, and the Linux terminal is way more powerful than the one that comes with Windows.

I use my desktop computer mainly for games and messing around on the internet, so I have both Windows 7 and the Windows Developer Preview installed.

Windows 7 on my desktop and work PCs, MacOS X on my laptop. Debian for anything that doesn't have a head.

I think that from a user standpoint, Mac OS is still my preferred choice - but the fact the hardware is cheap and flexible means that Windows prevails in my household.
