I'll stick with windows 7 as long as I can then switch over to Linux (Probably Fedora), as there is no way in h3ll I will be using 8 with there terrible tile design.

Have you ever tried Haiko OS, its a open source BeOS compatible os, its pretty good.

When I used Ubuntu there were a ton of glitches and other problems. At a certain point it became basically unusable. If more hardware and software companies would support Linux, I think it could be really good. But that has happened yet, at least not on desktop distros.

Even though I'm running Mac OS X on a PC, it's way more stable than Ubuntu ever was. The only real glitch is that sometimes when I wake the display from sleep, I get a static-y looking picture. That can be fixed by switching inputs on the monitor, and it doesn't happen that often. Still, overall it's much more usable than Linux, and also has a lot more quality software.

What version of Ubuntu were you using? Sounds like a really old edition given the issues being described.

In my humble opinion, once you take games away Linux quickly becomes a very competitive platform. Open source is just too hard to ignore and unless you can offer something cheaper than free, why would anyone want to lock themselves in?

I mean, Mac OS is good (from what I hear), but is it pay Apple for a computer + Licence + Upgrades good? Not when Linux does the same, but free.

I was going to say "Right click" but I don't think that applies any more, and I'd have to go find the post on bash.org to properly credit it.

Like I said earlier, Linux having no games is not an argument anymore. The OS has come leaps and bounds. OSX even has Garry's Mod now. I look forward to the future of these two operating systems to see what will happen. Linux particularly.

Just in case anybody cares for an update
Got my dell mini, have set up it up to dual boot windows 7/snowleo. I find that I am generally more productive on windows as I guess I just prefer the window management on there. I would say, however that I am finding snow leopard much more fun for just sort of playing around and general browsing. It's a good netbook operating system.

Yes, Unix is made with networking in mind. Windows is made to block networking.

    I use Windows 7 because I don't feel the need to pretend I'm a l33t hacker.

If you consider kids in Africa and other countries who use some form of Linux (Ubuntu, OLPC, etc) l33t hackers, then I guess you made the right choice. :friendly_wink:

Rocketdock is horrible. I use shortcut keys to launch programs and have a theme from deviantart called Shine 2.0 which is installed by patching uxtheme as well as having start killer installed for no start button.

I mean, it's just easier to use windows when you play as many doujin titles as I do.

Along with windows 7 on the MacBook and my normal desktop
Windows 8 preview is also installed on the desktop
and i think i have a copy of fedora on it aswell, and i still got my lovely old archaic xp machine back home.

and for a phone and tablets i have android.

i can happily say im not tied to any os just use what ever is suited to the moment. although for general work i do like osx the most dont really know why i guess its just cos it 'Just works'

I think it was 11.10. It's been a while so I don't remember exactly what problems it was having, but there were graphical glitches, Flash videos very often didn't display correctly, and it sometimes had problems with sleep. More importantly, it didn't run the programs I need to use on a regular basis, and the available substitutes didn't really match up. Even something as simple as iTunes - Banshee is a nice program, but it can't import CDs as AAC files. In fact, I couldn't find any way to import a CD as AAC files using any program on Ubuntu. As trivial as that may seem, it's pretty important to me. That's just one example.

11.10 = Unity so theres your problem right there ;) take it back to 10.04 and enjoy! Since 11.10 the community has grown significantly (ironic a shitty desktop environment could be considered the reason for the growth) and I'm sure theres something on the Ubuntu software/app store whatever it's called that will cater to it now.

I wonder if MATE (The Gnome 2.x fork) will take off. I think Linux Mint uses Gnome 2.x as well. Unity rubs me the wrong way to be frank.
