Unless he means pirate carts, though that's a bit of a long shot.

Even if so, of course you cannot compare yellow pirate carts (which are usually in Famicom style, not NES) with a yellow testing cartridge from Nintendo...

With a price like that, I would have guessed that he bought an early beta of Zelda OoT.

Naw, he's just thanking myself and two others for helping him sell an item for $55,000. Tom is a great guy, the sale is very much legit, and that's pretty much the story.

So how does it feel helping sell someone an overpriced final eprom like it's some one of a kind relic he can send his grandkids to college with?

He didn't swindle some old lady, he sold it to someone who knew exactly what it was. The buyer has quite the history of buying high priced gaming items and saying that their income allows them to live comfortably would be a gross understatement.

I know many of us focus on the data, but the tangible cartridge is pretty significant from a history of video games perspective.

Why do you assume the buyer is looking at it from an investment standpoint? Even then, if it turns out to not be the most sound of investments, thats sort of the gamble you take when you invest in something.

We didn't wait in the bushes while the guy signed a contract only to jump out and yell "Ha! We got you!" The buyer is very happy with the transaction, which I'd wager is more important than you being happy with it. Just makes you look sort of silly and/or butthurt.

Nintendo is the buyer, and they're going to destroy it.

Nah, just a bit stunned. You know what they say about a fool and his money; soon parted.

I wish you great success selling him more VGA graded bullshit.

Thanks man, I'll need it. It's getting harder and harder to find all my VGA'd stuff with these giant stacks of cash I have thrown all over the place...

Buyer finds item, buyer pays asking price for item, buyer is happy with item. OUTRAGE!!!

Seller acquires item, seller gets a bit of help selling item, seller thanks those who helped. GRRRR!!!

Again man, either you're getting needless worked up over a transaction that both buyer and seller are happy with, or yous a bit jelly that it sold for the price it did.

Well it isn't just that, people like you and VGA ruin this small obscure gaming economy with your high prices, and if some moron does pay that amount and is happy then great, but it inflates the price of everything else because people assume that if people will pay out 55K for that cartridge they will pay out the arse for anything else that is "rare" or has a VGA rating. So well done for having stacks of money, but the idea you seem a little bit pleased with yourself for helping to overvalue everything in the "economy" and ruin the fun of collecting is somewhat out of order...

P.S who actually says Jelly or Butthurt? trolls mostly, hinty hint hint....

I was kidding about the stacks of money, was confident that one wouldn't quite fly over anyone's head...

The Zelda wasn't VGA'd (though sure, it included an additional one in the auction). This sale had little/nothing to do with VGA. Moot point.

The Zelda sale has had no impact on proto sales for the most part. Still floating around $250 for released games, which is about what they went for 7-8 years ago. Hell, it's one of the few small sections of the NES market that hasn't gone through the roof.

I'm not trolling, my full name was posted in this thread a full week before I even posted here. The only reason anyone would get pissed off is that they didn't cash in the way others have, or that they aren't getting nerd PR to allow their e-peen to throb in its full glory. In the big scheme of things, the price of high end unique games shouldn't really have a huge impact on you.

If anyone is really that upset over the sale of a video game where both buyer and seller are happy, I suggest going outside and getting a breath of fresh air.

Yeah well it was a hilarious joke, very subtle and didn't make you seem arrogant at all...god knows that's not your intention.

VGA is another example of what you're doing by over exaggerating the value of something for profit, who else said it was THE MOST VALUABLE GAMING ITEM EVER! other than yourself? In my opinion Sonic X-treme is way more valuable because it was never released and even that didn't go for 55K.

Also I'm not saying that one single sale will overvalue everything but it's auctions like that which do overvalue everything and you're helping that by doing it yourself. And so what if your full name was posted? you're a brave troll I suppose?

The only person who seems to have a virtual erection here is you, because like I said you seem very proud of yourself for this, everyone else here is just pointing out you're a bit of a douchebag and you seem to feel like you have to tell us we're wrong? if you truly believe everything was done fairly then why would you even bother replying let alone trying to justify yourself, I wouldn't humor people with a reply if they accused me of making something overpriced.

And your last sentence is just being spiteful so again why would that be needed if you didn't feel at all defensive or challenged about what you did? You're a bad joke for a legitimate seller mrmark, a bad joke.

I always LOL when I see those stupid VGA graded games in those ugly clear boxes on ebay; it's hilarious that people are so retarded they'll pay some random dipshit to "grade" their stuff. I tip my hat to the guy/guys who came up with that scam though, I imagine it's a decently lucrative little swindle.

Most of what I see on this thread seems to be a lot of jealousy. Why are people so angry about what the winner of the auction paid?... Seriously... Isn't that the ONLY prototype cart of Zelda known to be in existence? If you own that one and only cart, and you want it to go to someone else, doesn't it make sense to let it go to the highest bidder, when only one person on the planet can have it? Or perhaps some here think it would make more sense to let it go to the person who complains about it the most...

Sometimes people pay ridiculous amounts for ridiculous shit, sometimes literally. Arguing about a sale that's already happened seems completely pointless. A Final Fantasy proto, an actual proto with differences, sold in the past few days for 'only' $2000, so I think it's safe to say that the prototype market hasn't been vastly influenced by this Zelda sale.

Well it's interesting to know that it is a real sale. But the cartridge is still not worth the sum paid. It's a standard Nintendo development PCB in a yellow test cart containing a final build of a game that sold very well. Compare that to the FDS prototype which apparently sold for far less. But then again if that's what someone wants to spend $55K on, that's fine.
