I agree with that, speedyink. It is the best 2-D Sonic made since then. The first Sonic Advance was good too. Keep in mind that all three of us in the video like the game. Two of us just don't like the game as much as most of the reviewers at the moment. For me personally, I was under the impression that the game was going to be filled with all-new levels, with maybe a Green Hill remake at the beginning. I was very excited for that. So I was disappointed when I played it and encountered remixed level after level. All three of us are Sonic fans. I've had a mostly good time with the 3-D Sonic games starting with Adventure. Sonic 2006 was rushed, and it's a shame because there was a good game in there trying to come out. It's popular to hate on new Sonic games, which has only magnified the love for Mania. I don't think a lot of the people loving it even played the last few major Sonic games. That's the part I don't agree with. I hope anyone who hit dislike will reconsider and change their vote. Although we were being completely honest with our review, one of my motivations for making the video was to get more views for the channel. We are a young channel, and I sacrifice three weekends whenever I make one of my new videos. Compared to our other videos, this one took off at first, but the views hit a wall as soon as the dislikes surpassed the likes. You don't have to, and you don't have to agree with us, but please think of how much work it takes for a new channel like ours.
The first Sonic Adventure on the DC is the only actually good 3D Sonic, I think. In fact, I like it more than the 2D Sonic games, even though I played those as a kid. I remember when they first had DC kiosks, before it was released, and you could play Sonic Adventure. I was not even considering getting a DC at the time, but I was pretty impressed by the graphics. I still think the graphics look good, even though it's not the best looking game on the DC. It's true that it is kind of easy, but that doesn't bother me.
I like most Sonic games. Both Adventures, Shadow, Unleashed, Generations, They're all good. Anyways this is what was missing from Knuckles Mirage Saloon stage
I've been a Sonic fan since I got Sonic 1 on the Genesis before Sonic 2 was out. I imported the Dreamcast early and finished Adventure. I enjoyed Unleashed. Naturally, I ignored and did not play Sonic Boom. I've mostly enjoyed Sonic's exploits, so it's annoying that everyone is on the Sonic-bashing bandwagon. Those who say Mania is Sonic's redemption, that he's had nothing good since 16-bit, annoy me.
Well there are certainly people who take it overboard, on both sides (and for many other topics..). I don't think there's anything wrong with 3D Sonic games. I liked Adventure, Colors, Generations, and a few others, but they all play way differently then the original games. It's not to say they are bad, they're just different. You're right, the Sonic Advance games were good, but they were only on handheld.
The way I look at it is, Sonic had to be reinvented for 3-D, just like Mario was. And Adventure did a damn good job. Is it any wonder? The same team made Nights. Over the years Mario has changed and so has Sonic. Mario's games have been much better received. But I still enjoy what Sonic Team puts out each time.
When I think of truely BAD sonic games. I think Heroes, 06, The Wii Games that aren't colors and Sonic Boom. The rest are good to great. I even liked the Warehog levels in Unleashed. Most of the portable Sonic games are unsung classics
I have to agree. I think Heroes was okay, as long as you played the GC version, but certainly a disappointment after the Adventure games. I don't really consider Sonic Boom a Sonic game, other than having the license.
Some people consider Adventure 2 to be the last good 3D one, but I prefer Adventure over 2 any day. I honestly think it's due to the engine. I just really like the way Sonic handles. I've recently modded Adventure quite a bit on Steam and having something like the Hyper Speed/Turbo button and the Infinite Jump added hours to that game for me. Every other one after that just didn't feel the same. It's kind of the way Super Mario 64 was. The other 3D Mario games are great but nothing will ever beat how Mario handles in SM64.
Snarkniness aside I think you may have been overly critical. It's not a game without it's flaws but those flaws lie with my skills as a gamer. There are some levels in Heroes (and I do indeed have the Gamecube version) that just make me want to bang my head against a wall. I forget what it's called but that plant stage with Team Sonic STILL can't pass it. The Sonic Heroes design too is just so anti sonic. Having to switch breaks up level pace. Music was good though, more than I can say for the Music in Forces.
GodofHardcore, yeah I think we must have done something to come off the wrong way. I changed the video description to state that we're all Sonic fans, which we definitely are, but the damage is already done. I should have left some part in where I talk about all the games I've liked that got a bad rap, but I removed it because we wanted to focus on Mania rather than dragging out arguments about past games. As for Heroes, most Sonic games have bad parts. It's only when you go back and play the best moments that you realize how good they are (or in the case of Sonic 2006 how much better it could have been).
I think Sonic Adventure 2 would be good if it were not for the terrible music. It's not all of the music either, just a couple of songs in particular, but it ruins the entire game for me. I think it was a terrible idea to have vocals in the music of a Sonic game; this should have never been attempted. I have the Japanese 10th Anniversary version. I actually had the idea to mod the game to replace the music I don't like, but I haven't made any effort to do that so far.
FOLLOW ME, SET ME FREE TRUST ME AND WE WILL ESCAPE FROM THE CITY Those lyrics don't get you going? Haha while they are pretty bad I do find them charming in a cheesy way. The music in SA is considerably better. Nothing beats the opening notes of Emerald Coast and every part of Twinkle Park. To bring this full circle, how is the music in Sonic Mania?
So I'm Playing Yakuza Kiwami and my phone blows up. A friend of mind is ranting about Sonic Mania having not only DRM on PC but DRM that's more or less malware. Something along the lines of Sega actually delayed it on PC to implement Malware DRM. Durrango and something like that. I don't know. First I heard of it. I know there was an online requirement that Sega removed. No idea how true that is but you guys would know better than anyone.
It's Denuvo. From https://steamcommunity.com/games/584400/announcements/detail/1448326045461380318: ...likely meaning, they're fixing the "store not mentioning the DRM" part. [sarcasm]Oh, goodie, that's exactly what we wanted, thank you.[/sarcasm]
I'm so glad I decided to switch to the...Switch version. I was on the fence for a while but, given the fact I could very easily take the Switch version with me made me go with that choice. Otherwise, I was leaning on the PC version for being able to install it on any of my computers. Given the recent DRM news, I would imagine that would have worked terribly in the end.
