Whoever is advising Sony execs that all this police and legal action is a good idea is definitely steering them in the wrong direction. They'll gain nothing from confiscating this poor guy's computers and get only bad press.

I reckon Ken Kutaragi (Mr. Anonymous) is behind all these recent PS3 exploit developments.

He wants to get his revenge back on Kaz Hirai, for taking his position and removing the PLAYSTATION 3 logo before a game boots and also changing the startup sound.

This may explain for those of you who are confused:

It's very much the truth too. I'm done with Sony's bullshit though. As soon as a method becomes available for 3.56 users I'm modding my system. I have not agreed to the new TOS yet because I wanted to see where Sony was going to go, and it's obvious they're taking the lowest path possible. I rarely use it, but I guess for downloadable games my 360 will be getting more use now.

Watch this space! Most likely NOT.

The PS2 was the end of the era. The PS3 is little more than a machine that got 360, Wii and PC ports with a sweet blu-ray player inside.

Sony is ensuring the last nails go in the coffin straight rather than crooked.

What's shocking is that this guy was working on booting linux on the ps3 ...
He was not making backup managers, selling hacked software or anything that could Hurt SONY first hand ... He was doing "research" on his own console and sharing the results with the world ... What's wrong?
Can't I figure out myself how my own car works and share the info with other people in order to fix their car without being sued by the manufacturer because I didn't use their repair shop? You can replace car by anything you want on that last sentence ...

If they wanted no one to try to boot linux using hacks, they should't have removed the otherOS feature ...

Also, hacks means modifications, not piracy or terrorism.

    My 2 cents,

    FG

Year 5 of my Post-Lik-Sang Sony Boycott. Sony will always do this kind of shit. They're worse than Microsoft and Nintendo put together, and believe you me, there's not much goodness in those two (corporatively) either.

Still, they use their huge amounts of money to do this borderline-illegal shit, and I'd rather not contribute to it.

Um, I think comparing Sony's anti-piracy campaign to Nazi Germany is a liiiiiiiitle bit of a stretch.

So... already we know Sony are after people hacking the PS3 firmware.

A guy continues to hack and publish his work online.

    The guy gets busted. :-0

Why are people here shocked and surprised? This isn't a guy tinkering with his machine in the privacy of his own home.

Nonetheless, reverse-engineering is legal in most country AFAIK and the guy tried to make Linux works decently, I mean what's the deal? I could understand that they're pissed by the people that cracked the beast open or by the people cheating on PSN, but a guy making Linux works? In the end a ps3 is simply a somewhat powerful computer with a non-common architecture (ARM), why can't someone write his own software for it or try to figure out how it works in order to do so? I mean, what if PC manufacturer starts to sell their computers with EULA that says you can't run Linux on your machine without getting sued? We would be screwed really hard. Even if you don't use Linux, from a freedom point of view it's alarming.

    My other 2 cents,

    FG

When the Sony Juggernaut is finally taken down thats gonna be one hell of an impact. Sony has got a massive ego and think they can do anything they want. Reminds me of WCW 98. At Halloween Havoc they thought they could do anything they wanted. They bought a 3 Hour slot and decided to make the main event start a few minutes before the slot ended. They thought they could do anything. In the end they got thrown off a few minutes after 11pm. They ended up refunding millions and having to show one of the biggest main events ever for free on normal TV.

I'm not condoning what sony are doing, but playstation 3 hacking is only going to lead to piracy it did with the PSP, DS, Wii, Xbox 360, and we all know that and so do Sony.

And when it comes to Linux on the PS3 why bother it has to little memory to run well, if youred tryed it with yellow dog you will know what I mean!
