Just a few days ago, while I was working on my Shat-Canned Legends documentary and researching further about EarthBound 64, I stumbled up these interesting screens and an article that concern Star Fox 2. Some of which are screens that seem to show an official English translation: Other pics that might interest are the article about Star Fox 2: Higher quality here: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2577/corridorsoftime.jpg And the unused official box art for the game: http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4968/starfox2box.png This game was scheduled to have been released on November 1995, right around the time when the Nintendo Ultra 64 was originally meant to launch in. The game was, according to Programmer Dylan Cuthbert, the game was "fully complete". However, producer and co-creator Shigeru Miyamoto felt the need for his development staff to get away from 3D on the SNES and just focus on developing for the then-upcoming Ultra 64 instead, specifically Super Mario 64, where that game would include many elements from Star Fox 2, specifically the camera angle dynamics. Quite possibly the most famous unreleased title in the world, it's such a shame that such a wonderful game like this didn't see the light of day in retail. That doesn't do the game any justice and something should be done about it! Unreleased games are awesome. Let's get Nintendo to release this and EarthBound NES (Zero is a fan name, not official. D=) on Virtual Console! Also, I would like to take this opportunity to demonstrate how this whole game plays in action as the eighth entry of my PEMNAS playthrough series on the REAL Expert Mode with Corneria actually taking damage! This is also the patched English version with no debug display too which fixes most of the game's glitches and bugs. Plus it's presented in HD! Hope you enjoy this run as much as I had. =) Also, PEMNAS stands for "PLEASE EXCUSE MY NOOB ASS SKILLS". I invented the term myself. (Part 1) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - First Failed Attempt Recap - Battleship & Titania (Part 2) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - Meteor & Battleship (Part 3) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - Venom & Algy / Andrew & Fortuna (Part 4) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - Pigma & Leon + Macbeth (SF logo cameo) (Part 5) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - F-Pantron + Battleships + Space Blade (Part 6) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) - Titania + Star Wolf (Part 7) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) Astropolis + Andross Unmasked! + Ending (Part 8/ THE END) Star Fox 2 (Expert Mode) Ending / Staff Roll / Credits + Ranking One last thing I'd like to point out. With the right controller settings, the game plays very similarly to Mega Man Legends. :110: That's definitely a neat thing (to me at least, cause I'm used to those kind of controls.) Discuss.
I think that starfox 2 box was fan made. It's a good game. It runs much smoother when emulated than on a snes, but runs pretty good on a snes too!
No, I think that box had come from an old EB Games or Funcoland ad. It's been photoshopped to be cleaner and larger, however.
Yeah, the box is from an old (and relatively damaged) EB games ad. http://www.snescentral.com/cart.php?id=0077&num=0 I was the one who photoshopped it, and I have to state that the planet in it does have some white crease marks in that could not be fixed without adding ugliness. I should still have the original scans if anyone wants to have a better go at it, as I must say this was one of the first attempts for me to photoshop something. Edit: Managed to find the original scan:
Fay and Miyu should've been the Starfox Girls and Krystal should've been in Dinosaur Planet. Thank you for your time.
I usually think Virtual Console is pointless(paying for old games that are either cheaper buying the original, or just emulating it ), but if this were on there and enough people bought it, just maybe it would get Nintendo to possibly release other unreleased obscurities on there. Conker's Quest, I wish
Hey I saw a youtube video with multiplayer. I don't remember that in the game. Am I forgetting something or is there another rom out there or??? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTPDYOk03RU I also think it would be cool to see things like this on virtual console, but my understanding is that it's hard to do legally. I don't understand things like this so this may be complete rumor, but I heard that when a game gets far along and is canceled that it's often a big tax writeoff. So releasing it for money later is actually hard to do. Someone said it can't be copyrighted because of the writeoff, but that didn't make sense to me.
There is more than one rom out there. Two earlier ones are more buggy but have the multiplayer option, but missing menus etc, while the most common one is closer to complete but no multiplayer.
Any chance the memory / rom locations have been patched out by anyone on the multiplayer stuff? Down the line Id still love a Starfox 2 cart or two, one being the multiplayer heh
I'm sure it is placeholder art, however it is better looking than the mockups I have seen in magazines. Also, StarFox was only about 98% complete, and the final code may be gone forever. I find it hard to believe Nintendo would go through the efforts of hacking it, which is probably one of the reasons the game was leaked.
Well I'm going to try the multiplayer rom on a cart if I can find it. I'll let you know how that goes. Wasn't the original release compiled from source? I thought the source was found and then compiled and then the rom was released (at least for the most common version).
I'm pretty sure that the nearly-complete version that AGTP made the translation/bugfix patch for was dumped from a development cart.
Nope, it was just a binary. I really don't know why people think the source was leaked. How would anyone be able to compile it?
Well it's all over the internets, so it muuust be true.... Not often, but I've seen snes software, including compilers, available here or there.
I know who leaked out the near final beta, and these are the facts: 1) The ROM image was leaked as a compiled binary. There was no source code or prototype cartridge. 2) The person who leaked it did not have an English version of the game, but it did exist (probably sitting in Nintendo's vault right now). This is plainly obvious from the magazine shots. 3) The leak was deliberate because the person wanted to get it properly emulated. I would elaborate more, but this person wants to remain anonymous, and I will respect that.
Big thanks to whoever released that binary, it's much appreciate by all nintendo fan to be able to play with an interesting piece of nintendo history.
Wouldn't it be awesome if we could get an "inside man" in Nintendo or Rareware who could finish the job of unlocking the vault? It'd be like something outta Assassin's Creed. XD *bends his ring finger inward meaningfully*
Only if you ignore the fact that flying lead would never give you that "chance" again, then yeah I see your point...
