    I'm gonna make this short..

In regards to Microsoft's big console bricking fest..

Don't know if you noticed.. Everyone that's been bricked went to "dash.xex", either downloading something, or etc. Or went there, then quit out. In that time I think you're xbox downloaded the data it needed to brick it.

I know two people who took kits online thinking they won't be fucked, they went to the dash and after 5 seconds they were bricked.

I went to my flash.. extracted xshell.xex, renamed it to dash.xex, and replaced my dash.xex with that one, and I've been on partnernet just fine guys..

So my question to you guys is.. when you guys got bricked, if any of you guys did.. did you guys go to the dashboard at ANY time since boot?Because everyone I know has. And if you weren't banned, have you gone to the dash/game marketplace since the 24th?

I put up a poll.. Vote now.

NOTE: When I say "been to the dashboard" in the poll.. I mean while connected to partnernet

After people starting talking about this I didn't go to the dash, or connect to live in any games. I did use the launcher to check the connection to XePartnerNet and it finished fine, and I haven't bricked.

    No. That did not help.

Machine name is completely irrelevant. ;)

I have yet to go back online since all this started, but I've been contemplating removing the r6t3 on my board since they're supposedly blowing the fuses. Been waiting on a second opinion from others though. ;x

The Day (cant recall exactly what day) the bricking started i was online all that day and most of the next day, then shadowlag informed me of the situation, i have been offline since, I am not bricked.

When i was connected, i was downloading Arcade games of the marketplace. I will do as you suggested, and go online.

Thank you Xenon.7 i appreciate the help.

To be honest I would like to entertain this idea, but ATM no way of telling for sure if it was a dashboard thing. I use xexloader as my custom dash same with default.xex might explain why I wasn't hit for the longest time but at the same time it seems a little too simple.

Well.. The code has to be called from somewhere.. It'd make more sense to do it from xam, which I'm sure it does, but I think it's triggered by dash.

    But this is all hypothetically..

I had been on since the 24th, but as soon as I heard about the bricking I went offline for a while. I was on the dash during that time too. Just yesterday I went on, and I heard that I shouldn't go to the dash, but at some point in the launcher accidentally clicked the start button (which went to the dash), but I quickly jumped up and held the power button down.

The dash was only on the screen for around a second; so if something truly was going to happen out of it, I was either lucky I did something in time, or was just, in general, lucky nothing happened at all. Basically I'm trying to get that when I turned it back on, everything was fine, and I was still able to go online and do just anything in general that does not involve the marketplace/dash. I don't want to risk anything. :/

Well, with this, it could show that possibly the code may be run after the dashboard finishes loading, instead of running the code before the dash. Just speculation though. Mike, you should hit me up on msn, been a while since I've seen you on, and we can discuss something.

This attack must be targeted at certain people or boxes.

I think it's a friends of friends of friends type of thing.

Chinese people -> gabe_k -> my xbox with accounts with gabe_k on them, and other people, etc. I think it was just a select amount of people, and friends of friends.

MS can give free replacements to legit developers so it'd mean nothing if they hit their own guys..

Actually that doesn't make sense cause I saw people on my friends list for the short time I was signed in that had been online minutes ago. I think they might be flagging by games played early. Maybe we played a specific build of a specific one that they flagged or some crap.. Either way.. ugh..

Oh and even if you got a newer dash, you'll still get hit if you're on the shitlist fyi..

I was in the same boat as gabe, but I haven't gone online to see...

If it worked that way though, wouldn't they ban every unit that profile signs on to? I know a guy who turned on his kit; RRoD shortly after. Went on a different kit with the same profile; worked fine.
