I see you know nothing about American cars. My car gets 30 miles to the gallon easily. Also, it does not look or feel cheap. Oh, btw I voted American.
No, it's not a diesel. It is a 1988 Mustang with a 4 cylinder. If you want a car that gets good gas mileage, get one with a 4 cylinder.
What, they show Top Gear - as in the BBC series - in Brazil? Cool. And I don't think anyone with any sense would like any Rovers - except for some of the cool old ones like the P5 and SD1, the only remotely good cars they've ever made in the past 25 years were just badly-made re-badged Hondas. Cheap-asses. The only other company I can think of that makes re-branded early '90s Japanese cars are Proton... and they're from Malaysia! And you gotta admire the Japanese for their silly cars and even sillier names. Daihatsu are mostly the culprite for this, with their long-running Charade and Applause models, but they get worse - Opti Aerodown Beex, anyone? Even Honda are at it these days with their Box-On-Wheels, the "That's":
I was talking about things like the 2,5 ton cadilac escalade and all those suv's and so on, american cars have never been good miles to the galon compares to european and japanese cars. And technology / styling wise, well let's just say that refinement isn't an american thing i mean american cars get a 5-6 liter V6 or V8 and get 300 BHP while you can get that same ammount from maybe a 2.5-3.0 european or japanese car. Hell the mazda RX8 has a 1.3 engine but gets almost 230 BHP. Download a few episodes of topgear from some torrent site and have a look at how they test things like the corvette and the caddilac escalade
I think Japanese, I mean never-left-Japan cars are the most nifty. 95% of the Japanese car market is stuck in Japan for some obvious reasons. If you go, you'll see bizzare imports like a milkbox sized Mercedes that looks no different than a milkbox sized Toyota I don't think i'd like to drive one but in-Japan cars have become quite novel.
Japanese cars are better than American cars. If that weren't true then it wouldn't be illegal for me to drive a Silvia on the Road in the US.
Only reason why no sylvia is that they didn't do the crash tests yet to that model to make it legal, it's just the parent company being lazy, like the r series (34, etc) They also don't meet the bumper standards. It's like the bugatti veryon, it's 250mph, quad turbo you really think they will crash test 4 of the $1,000,000 vehicles that take a year to build each just to sell in the usa?
I personally own two Fords, becasue they seem to be the only American cars that don't fall apart. Japanese cars are nice in that they last forever and are cheap to fix up. But I had to vote European cars. Once you drive a Mercedes or BMW, there is no going back.
Yes, but there are more than just SUV's in the US. Like I said before, you don't know much about US cars.
European and Japanese cars feel like bing inside a computer sometimes.. a majority of us cars are tiny econoboxes, but some are real machines. Get yourself a: 2004 mustang mach 1 2004 Cobra Any late model Camaro SS Firehawk Corvette 96 impala ss etc
What, they have to crash test cars before they're made roadworthy in the US? That must be annoying. I don't know what the restraints on importing cars here is - there's probably some sort of EU regulations, but Japanese imports don't look they've been modified or anything when they come here - they don't even bother changing the speedometers and odometers, though that won't be a problem as next year we'll be finally going metric anyway*. A lot of imports still have their original dealer stickers and even parking discs! Are there a lot of imports in the US nowadays? I always thought the whole right-hand-drivedness of Japanese cars was too much of an inconvenience there. They've been doing it for over 20 years here in Ireland, because somehow importing a used car half-way across the world ends up being cheaper than buying a used car originally sold here. Though that means the majority of imports here are lame family cars, including a lot of crappy smelly Corona diesels and Corolla DX's (DX is like third-world spec - I've seen '94 models that don't even have tape decks!) becoming taxis... *We've been living in half-metric limbo for the past two decades - all modern road signs have distances written in kilometres, but the speed limits are still all MPH!
Another reason we dont see cars like the Silvia on US streets is because it loses its value in Japan, and status. And you guys know how the Japanese are with their inner egos and how they just have to be elite and stay that way. But realistically is because it doesn't meet US standards. I think Mitsubishi had to scale down a lot things for the US Lancer Evo in order for them to sell it in the US. The only reason they sell that now because, Mitsubishi figured out that the crappy FWD Lancer US version they started selling years ago was an insult to the Lancer model series. I knew this thread will spark an arguement over which car is better. But since BMW stopped producing the 740iL series :smt022 , and the saab doesn't look appealing to me anymore, nor does the Audi variant. I might just go for a Cadillac, and not violate it or pimp it.
I meant it, the DOT and EPA stupid rules and regulations is why better cars are available other places than here. It's so transparent it boggles the mind we are a nation of SUV driving diesel and carbeurated dinosaur tecnologies yes burn more fuel people :smt023 that is why you can't have a RWD S14 turbo 2.0 liter that came from Japan for driving on the road unless you are military and paid to have one brought back after living overseas. Sure the latest skyine is avilable at huge markup ($50,000) and if you know someone in the industry you can have a S14 made road legal for ($20,000) after converting the specs and replacing numerous parts done by certified specialists. There was a S14 Silvia for sale by Kansai here a while ago but they wanted ($20,000) might as well build your own if they want that much. :smt082
That's because the gas guzzling SUVs are labeled as trucks and thus can have such low MPG ratings. Its a loophole that needs to be closed IMO. Well another funny thing about it is that you're required to have a special license if you're driving vehicles like those. Most of the drivers don't know this and if pulled over and the cop finds out, they get a $50,000 fine :smt043
I hope they have 1mpg cars, the sooner the gas is all gone, the sooner we repair the earth and look for better energy that is clean.
Well cleaning up the earth would go a lot faster if the usa would just sign the kyoto agreements like all other countries to lower emmisions etc.. and stop making cars so big they look like trucks :smt042
i voted american. probably cause i live in america, and its usually the most economcal choice. plus ive owned a porche, a fucking clutch cost me 1500 dollars. i havent spent that much towards my escort's maintainence over the five years ive owned it. atleast from my experience, german car reliability is over rated. my 88 944 i bought form a retired college professor and had really low milage (exact number escapes me right now) but it was in the shop ALL THE TIME. if it wasnt for that id still own it. oh, and i just noticed the logo above my avatar! SWEET! gome on guys donate! we need our boys home. its $6 in the right direction.
Marge: Ohh a Hummer! How many miles to the gallon can you get? McBain: I get 1 freeway, 0 city. Uh-huh :-D
