I wish I had a car... though that would probably require a full-time job, which wouldn't help too much with that university thing. The problem over here is that insurance is BEYOND insane - anyone under 20 will be paying about €3,000 a year for a <1.3-litre IF YOU'RE LUCKY. I'm not even planning on spending that much on a car! And don't forget the €1 per litre petrol, and equally expensive road tax. Ohh, I'm gonna be 30 by the time I can afford my own car! :smt022 At least I still get to go around in a Merc until then: A 50-seater Merc, mind you... :smt022
Have to agree with that one. That was a 2000 campagin promise both Canidates made (Bush broke that one by the way. But it's no supirse becasue everyone knew he was going to.) Next car I get is going to be a hybrid. Fuck this $2.50 a gallon crap. I know you guys in Europe spend like $5 a liter for gas, making the equivalent price for the same amount of gasoline I get roughly $10 for you. Damn. I don't know how you handle it. Ziglog- Three thousand dollars? Jeez... fuck that. Know how much I spend for insurance? $50 a month. I'm sorry man. That sucks. As you can see there are advantages to living in America.
I'm 17, just had to get my car insured. Fair enough, i haven't passed my test yet, but to insure a moderate car (5.5yrs old, 1.3l engine, hyundai so not the pinacle of sportiness/luxury/anything!). £1400. And that was the cheapest, there were other quotes up to around £3000. Lets hope i don't crash, or 3k will be the minimum i can get..... Of course, don't forget our nice 85p/litre petrol. thats $6.50 per gallon...
Well it's quite easy to live with seeing as an normal european or japanese car here does arround 30-35 miles to the gallon if you drive normaly. But that's the price you have to pay to drive a car, oil reserves are getting less by the week and the number of vehicles that need it just keeps growing so prices will only rise more and more until finally some company has the balls to produce a affordable hydrogen car challanging the mighty all powerfull oil indistry
That's only like 2/3 of what I'd have to pay (£1400=€2000=US$2700). Not too shabby, unless you're a woman... Or €1.20 a litre - yes, something in Ireland that's actually cheaper than in the UK! A lot of people in the North actually drive across the border just to get fuel these days.
