Yesterday I went to the local Subaru dealer to see about buying a new car since the wife uses the Mitsubishi one all the time and besides I'd rather have my own car. Anyway, while there I noticed that they had a Grand Tourismo Subaru special Edition Simulator running on PS2 hardware. This was fantastic !! Just like driving a real car sim. Just a shame the game was shit :110:

The image is played across 3 screens giving you quite a wide view that actually works.

The wheel is caked in buttons of which only 3 are used  Still it has full feedback which was good.

By the way, this is the car I'm going to buy. An Impreza sports wagon with all options. The one pictured isn't mine since I have to order it first but mine will look just like it.

Thanks Paulo. I was originally looking at buying a Toyota Rav-4 or the new Mitsubishi COLT Rally Arts Edition but that is a little out of my price range at 2 million yen plus insurance. The Subaru Impreza Sports Wagon is only 1 million 650 thousand yen with everything included. Pretty cool package !

I was pretty impressed to find this thing in a Japanese car dealer ! I wonder who built them? Probably Subaru them selves but the software is defiantly from Sony for Subaru since it only features Subaru cars. I bet the software is quite collectable. Then again I know sweet FA about PS2 games.

Yakumo, you should have just bought the PS2 setup instead of the car. Im sure your wife would have been impressed with that! "Hey, look at the car I bought!!!" lol.

Nice looking car that you are buying though

Yeah, I know ! I was working out the price in pounds today. The average price of a nice decent car is about 8k (pounds) but you can get cheaper. The Mitsubishi EK Wagon that I use now was 6k. Car prices seen to go like this

5 to 6 thousand pounds for a small car

8 to 10 thousand pounds for a saloon (sedan)

11 to 15 for stuff such as a Toyota Altezer (probably a Lexus in the west), Land Cruiser and so on. A Lancer Evolution cost 3 million yen which is about 18 thousand pounds plus the insurance is sky high and it won't run on regular petrol. You need to use Hi-octane petrol. So my dream of ever owning one it going to remain just that, ..... a dream :crying:

Hey Yakumo. I would love to try this simulator. I have some videos that show it working and seems to be tons of fun (GT4 Prologue Ending Movie also shows it).

Toyota had a similar version, but instead of three screens, it used a kind of VR googles.

By the way, thanks for the pics.

Subaru Impreza is indeed a great car. Too bad it cost too much down here (i'm not even gonna mention maintenance costs... )

I didn't see it at a dealership, but there was one like it was at the Atlanta auto show. They were charging $5.00 per race. In addition to the three screens there was a 42" plasma set off to the side so everyone else could watch the race also. It was definitely the second coolest thing there. ( My avatar was the first. )

I remeber seeing one sort of like that at the 05 Dallas auto show. I was too buzy looking at the cars to try it and wasn't much of a collector back then to bother trying it out.:crying:

I haven't decided on the colour yet but I find that the Subaru blue with gold wheels seems tacky since everyone has that set up.

The simulator must have a modified playstation 2 board because at some points of the demonstration the center monitor shows the game while the two outer monitors show the game's title screen or another demo. I doubt a standard PS2 could do this even with some sort of monitor splitter

One of the GT games allows you to hook up three ps2's with three screens for
environment surround via the ilink port.
