People who try to prototype troll annoy me, it takes away the efforts of myself and many others who actually do put the time in.
I can tell of its illegitimacy because of a couple inconsistencies: If this was recorded from an analog video signal (RCA), then how come we don't see the black boarders that surround the four sides of the white Now Loading screen just after Mario jumps into the painting and you select a stage? In fact, the blunt white Loading screen doesn't even match the white hue of the stage select. It's funny how there are two different loading screens too. I strongly believe that guy is a phony.
I figured it was, I do remember as a kid incredible universe (now frys) had two 64 kiosks setup about 3 or 4 months before the system came out and the version on display was a beta. The cartridge even had a professional beta label, sadly wasn't able to try it out cause the lines were so long. Even my brother was confused it was a different version considering his friend had the japanese version for awhile. Sadly I don't have any evidence as this was a time before everyone had a cellphone with cameras (back when you had to have serious money to own a cellphone). But I am pretty sure the beta has to be out there somewhere. A shame really since the course number was suppose to be way higher than the final game but due to cartridge space had to be cut back. Anyone know if the extra levels in the mario 64 ds port were from the beta of mario 64?
Did anyone else hear the sound effect at the beginning of the video? Sounds like Sonic Adventure 2 theme
In regards to Super Mario 64DD I think you guys are all failing to notice the date the video was uploaded His other videos seem somewhat legit. He has a "pre-beta" of Castlevania64 but he's one of those people that conflates preservation with piracy and for some reason simply refuses to show even prototype FOOTAGE unless the game is "extremely close to the final product." Sounds like someone who even if his protos are legit, would never share even with donations, so I hope he stops buying them.
Which, like I said, is likely the case, as I recall a final or near-final Castlevania prototype being sold.
Me: "Please do the world a favor and stop buying protos (at least the legit ones you have) if you're just going to hoard them and ignore the preservation efforts by the people at sites like assemblergames. I sincerely hope you at least have personal backups, cartridges don't last forever." Him: "everything i have is backed up and no, i will keep buying prototypes. i do not have to share them and i do preserve my carts. there ALL VGA graded and in glass cases." Looks like we'll just have to beat him to the punch whenever protos are up for sale, but at least he backs them up even if he's a total asshole (not because he won't share, but because he privatized the Super Mario 64DD video after I called him out and he gave a VERY rude response).
You weren't the only one that called him out. I posted a comment saying it was fake unless he were to have it privately backed up and analyzed as proof. His response? "i had it VGA graded. you sir are invalid."
I can confirm the Super Mario 64DD video was fake. Right after one of the fake loading screens was a split-second image with a name, googled that name and it was a video editing software. The fact that it appeared and just after that fake loading screen says it all.
Yep. That would be this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Castlevania...9799?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43bb4c2a57 Ha, I remember that video he made. Before he disabled comments and ratings, someone asked him if he'd be willing to upload some footage of it, and he replied "search 'Castlevania 64 beta' on YouTube. There's your footage" or something to that effect. I highly doubt the cart is anything but a final version with a debug menu. If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say he bought the cart thinking it'd be way different from the final version, then realized he just spent over $500 on a final copy with a debug menu, then decided to show it off and play the "nanana, you can't have it" card to make himself feel better. That's just a guess though, not passing it off as fact. If true, then what an idiot. Did I say idiot? I meant batshit retarded. Fucking hell, I bet now he think it's worth $10,000. Oh wait, it has a glass case, I meant $15,000... plus $20 shipping.
I think people will find that the sticker doesn't matter, and version numbers don't matter without context. Version .2, in this case, doesn't mean that there was a version .3, a version.4, etc, instead you are looking at a game that is a month prior to the final, which is likely around when the game went gold. If build 110 is the final version, then what difference does it make? And lets not forget that it is easy to overwrite a cart without updating the sticker.
That's true. It's also technically possible that the cart was wiped and doesn't even work anymore. It's not like he's willing to prove otherwise. EDIT: Or... not. "There is Japanese writing on the sticker. I am unsure what region this version was intended for because the in game text was in English. I did play the game for a bit and was able to defeat the giant skeleton boss. Everything functioned as I expected it to. I am unsure what differences there are between this and the final version of the game, but I'd have to imagine something has to be different at some point due to this being version 0.2." I should really read the links I post first. Oops.
