I feel unique now in that my 360 died completely differently! Mine started messing up the colours one day in a game, so halo 3 for example would be all green, like the red and blue channels were missing somehow. Anyway, this had been happening after long sessions for a while, then after rebooting it after one episode, it just didn't show anything on the screen - there was sound, but no video. Got that one sent back and now I have a lovely working one!
Unlucky dude I recommend phone MS asap because when I went on the site yesterday they wanted £59.99 out of me to fix it and with 3.99 discount!
Called them up just now, they'll fix it under warrenty, UPS will be picking it up between monday and wednesday and the time for repair at this moment i was told is 3 weeks. Guess i have an excuse now to Play Zelda The Twilight Princess on my Wii again without being distracted by tuning my cars in Forza 2 or having friends invite me to Halo 3 MP sessions :crying:
Oh crap! Something similar happend to me while playing bioshock the other day :O I was living in denial and thinking that it must have been some artistic thing they did just like when they display those old pics on the screen. I hope it wont go belly up soon OH:
I'm on my second, never got the ROD but the disc drive just died to the point it would take 20 - 30mins constantly loading and reseting the game/console. Called MS in the last week of it warranty and got it replaced. Haven't had a problem since and it's a different drive then I had.
Same thing happened to my brother, his dvd drive crapped out,got a replacement, but for him about a year later his replacement console got the red ring of death. Now he got another replacement kit back from MS,hope this one will last.
looks like yahoo is fine with bashing MS now.. http://us.i1.yimg.com/videogames.yahoo.com/feature/red-ring-of-failure/1192354 had this story on their front page, with such nice feelings like.. "Worst gaming console?" "Is your Xbox 360 still working? You must be one of the lucky ones." "Over 18 million Xbox 360s have sold through since the console's launch in November 2005, but just how many of those are still working?" funny to see this on yahoo's main page, when it's been known for awhile. Maybe they're punching MS in the nuts since MS wants to buy them.
my 360 is taking a well-deserved break. Brawl and my Saturn are going to be keeping me busy for a looong time.
Thats what happened to my first Xbox360. It was around the time Bioshock came out, and I was playing Morrowind to pass the time. Eventually the colors just went all weird, until one day the screen faded to black. Thankfully, I worked at Gamestop at the time and just switched my console out for another used one (that we sent off as defective!!!! Don't worry). Though later on I sold THAT one and got a Halo Xbox360. No problems with the Halo system yet *knocks on wood*.
I have had my 360 for almost 2 years now...purchased spring of '06 and never had a problem...probably because it does not get played much
i'm on my second now, and I know at least 4 other friends/family with 360's....I've never had a problem and nor have they. I'm on my second because the 1st was banned from live so I sold it around the middle of last year. Saying that, a cousin of a friend (iirc) has sent his back 3 times, at least. I think people need to probably just be a little more sensible with them. Mine's been left on for well over 24 hours straight with just a little slow-down being evident. I wouldn't chuck a towel on it as it was never designed for that....as I keep telling my friend.
I posted images of this issue a few months ago and described it as a 'Fairy washing up liquid effect' on the screen. I am afraid to say it's a GPU issue and the only 2 other people (a friend of OE's and myself) I had previously heard of having this problem first hand, had to replace their units. Sorry mate, but I would keep and eye on it and watch your warranty time. Get it back to MS! If you want I can repost the images (if I still have them) of this issue for comparison.
Thanks, might be good to see them for comparison. The screen went in the shades of pink, cyan, magenta and yellow I think for about a minute. Also had a lot of slowdowns in the game (Bioshock) too, could this be some overheating thingy too? I got the console around xmas last year so I still have a few month of the warranty left.
I would send it in babu. That's a known issue. Other effects looks like stitching through screen etc..
sigh.. at least MS quit using that reasoning last year. It's nice your's hasn't died once. However the 360's aren't dying because of how people use them. They are pieces of shit by design. Saying that people need to be more careful with them is insulting, considering mine just sat there on an entertainment shelf with plenty of ventilation and had to be replaced 3 times. you can like the 360 and acknowledge it has design problems. I did until my 3rd one died and they sent me back a refurbished launch unit.
Kotaku ran a story not too long ago saying, something like, 18% of all 360's are defective OUT OF THE BOX... Good thing there are only like five games for xbox/xbox360 that I want and I can live w/o 'em Though the funny thing is, is'nt it the same factory in china producing the 360's, wii's, and ps3's?
I think that's slightly biased - probably that out of a sample of 100 consoles 18 failed - and they were probably all from the same batch. 18% is a ridiculous figure for a brand new system.
