IKEA is fine, but plan what you want and stick with it. The amount of couples I see in there almost coming to blows is lol worthy....until I look across at the missus and think "any minute now".

HAHA I went once with my girlfriend. Once was enough. I'd written out the list of exactly what we needed beforehand yet it still took like 2 hours.

    Lackracks are pretty cool!

Just out of curiosity, do they serve meatballs in an Australian Ikea? They seem to in every other place I've ever been in one in (yes, even in China).

Pretty sure they have meatballs (been a while). The fish and chips are ok, it is just the generic fish though.

They were going to put an ikea closer to where we live in north lakes but apparently that got scrapped as costco is going in instead. My wife (& her friends) are devestated. Costco sounds cool though.

On a side note does anyone remember the "a current affair" story on why ikea costs twice (or near enough to) as much as it does here vs America etc? The excuse was transporting it here costs more, "but most of it is made in Indonesia?" "Um, ah no comment". Lol!

Eh, business as usual, foreign corporations know they can overcharge Australians for their products and get away with it, so they do. I'm in the process of buying a new Les Paul, and buying from overseas literally costs well under half the price of buying in Australia, shipping included.

Australian court has summoned Microsoft, Apple etc. to a briefing to explain why Australian consumers pay up to double for some items as the US.

Essentially everything comes down to "being priced in that market" - 22 million people vs. 300 million.

Fair few news stories around the place in regard to this. Personally, I think it's BS. They should have the same price world wide, where as now I can purchase items from the US (even items made in Aus) for cheaper than I can buy them here, including the shipping charge.

What? Because they sell less here in Australia, they make them more expensive? Great marketing. Pat yourselves on the back companies, you've earned it.

Ah I have many a rant about this in regard to Warhammer stuff. I don't "do" Apple stuff so I was ignorant of it all (in regards to downloadable digital media). I got the wake up call when I wanted to download some Audio books from Black Library (Warhammer). As I have said before to add insult to it, you are able to flick between currencies from the drop down menu at the top. Typical unabridged audio book is $45AU vs $35US. I did contact them as to why here is the response.

    "HI Peter, [FONT=arial, helvetica, sans-serif]

I’ll do my best to allay your concerns, but this answer probably won't be wholly satisfactory for you.
This disparity in prices is due to the fact that we set our prices in line with the Australian book market, and our other titles available in that market. In addition to this, with eBooks particularly, we set our prices according to our own physical books in a corresponding pricing matrix.

The lifespan of books tend to be very lengthy, often a year or more, and as such the book industry does not react quickly to the fluctuations in global currency. Over time the economic factors and gradual shifts in the market pricing structure result in these disparities evening out, unfortunately it can mean that one region gets a slightly better deal than others for a while.
Hopefully this has made it a little clearer for you, and as always, we are grateful for customer feedback on these points.
    Many thanks,
    Eve
    Black Library"

I just thank (allthough it can be a bad thing) thingy for the internets. I get 95% of my books from Book Depository as well as the Audio CD's I get, which are around half the price (inc delivery).

Remember when Gerry Harvey wanted to put a tax on anything that's imported? He got death threats and all sorts of hate mail. Noticed he hasn't been on TV since?

lol death threats seem a bit excessive. He always struck me as just an old fella who doesn't understand all these fancy internet tubes.

I learnt recently that the Australia tax is alive and well. $130 more for a 3DSXL here than the US. Would have already imported had it not been for the region lock but I think I'll get that new Animal Crossing bundle from 'mericuh. $220 vs $350 or something dumb.

Never thought we'd be getting screwed over on IKEA stuff though. That's just silly. :(
