Forgot to mention a bug of a game i have. - NBA JAM T.E. Both the Saturn and Playstation version are exactly the same (the Saturn has little better sound and voices), but the Playstation version suffers from a weird bug. The Opponent Level selection is totally wrong. If you select VERY EASY you are actually choosing for VERY HARD. And if you choose VERY HARD you will play on VERY EASY. :smt043 :axe:
Bugs in Games The worst game I've played for bugs and glitching simply has to be The Getaway (the first, uncensored version), though floating ''outside'' the play area can sometimes be relaxing - I love walking towards the cloud backdrop, looking back and watching London reduce to the size of a few pixels!! I'd love to know just how many of this game's problems are leftovers from the prototype PSOne version, as I also know a few examples of such sloppy programming on that system... However, a special mention must be made for the original Japanese editions of Virtua Fighter 3tb and Sega Rally 2. VF3tb has some terrible character joint warping (because textures were stretched over the missing polygons, for which there really was no excuse) and shadow break-up on anything but completely flat terrain. As for SR2, the frame rate seems to drop every time I try taking a corner. I know that both titles were rushed slightly to make the Dreamcast's release deadline, but sometimes it looks as if these games were actually reduced in quality closer to their completion. Then again, the early aborted CS Team conversion of SR2 didn't look anything like its arcade counterpart. Also, why didn't AM2 handle the DC port of VF3? They were still busy making Saturn VF3 and Shenmue the best Saturn games out there, which is even more ironic considering that the console's ''big bang'' was Deep Fear (at least in the UK) - even the cancelled Saturn version of Biohazard 2 would have been more welcome, despite the fact that Capcom decided to restart development on the PlayStation only...
re I didn't know the Getaway was originally developed for the PSX... Hmph... I still stand by Daggerfall and Elite III being tied for buggiest game ever (even after the patches). :butthead:
Re: re Please don't get me started on elite man what a piece of unplayable crap that was, i used to get thrown out of the game every 5 minutes with some kind of crash error message i hated it :snipe:
The Getaway - PSOne version Team Soho was formed as the Sony division in charge of producing technology demonstration software for the PlayStation, though soon they were also giving their stunning visuals enough gameplay to justify their release (I recall that the first title to come from this working method was This Is Football). The Getaway began life in late 1999 as an advanced facial animation test, though soon the developers began putting the results of their initial efforts into playable code. I'm not sure exactly when the game was carried over to the PS2, but there was no press coverage of The Getaway in its PSOne form - this was probably because of its primitive state and the fact that Sony knew that the visuals would benefit from a massive visual overhaul. A lot of the story elements were complete by 2001, and it's been suggested that the first released screenshots were actually mock-ups or modified in-game captures with upgraded effects. There was a preview demo of The Getaway released on PS2 in 2002, but even this has a lot of differences to the finished code (character designs were being tweaked right up until the end, it seems after checking out this now-rare sampler). The retail version of The Getaway was therefore quite a let-down in comparison to the hype surrounding those pre-release (fake?) images, but somehow I feel that porting the game from PSOne and messing around with its structure so much was to blame for many of its flaws. After all, how many other games have full FAQs dedicated just to the bugs and glitches available? However, I actually enjoy roaming around outside of the designated playable area and breaking the game's rules - I've always been one of those people that finds (good) glitches just as entertaining as their host software! Has anyone ever been able to find a copy of The Getaway for the PlayStation? Also, isn't it funny that both Sony AND Sega were developing games late into their respective 32-bit system's lives that utilised the "cutting" edge of 1998-1999's facial animation technology, only for the two games to end up appearing on the next generation of hardware? I am referring to The Getaway and Shenmue, of course - both cost loads and were commercial failures. The only difference between these two games is that The Getaway WAS completed, while we're still waiting for Shenmue. P.S. In a recent article, Team Soho commented on an early abandoned direct sequel to The Getaway that was shelved in favour of the forthcoming Black Monday - that might be another thing to look out for, though Sony aren't so well-known for leaking cancelled games...
Didnt the first Japanese print of Saturn Virtua Fighter have a strange bug were Akira's foot was on backwards during the intro? Oh, and Race Drivin' on the saturn had a very bad bug. It let's you switch the game on :smt043 Yakumo
:smt043 LOL There's even a FAQ on this. Check it here: http://www.vidgames.com/ps/reviews/nbajam4.html
:smt043 Incredibly this "game" was released on Playstation too. Unfortunately, i had the chance to play it. I'll never forget those 10 minutes i lost. :Hangman:
In the Japanese release of Daytona USA for the Dreamcast, there is a bug when you calibrate your controller. If you go to option and calibrate first player's analog stick sensitivity, the first player's setting will also be the second player's second...in another word, doesn't matter what 2P calibrates, he will always be using the setting set by 1P. Also in OutTrigger on the Dreamcast, some clever online players know how to "blow" themselves out of the playable area of the arena, so they will be on the other side of the fence/gate/wall, or at the very top of a building or the telescope in the Observatory stage. The strange thing is that even though the player is not supposed to be on the other side of the fence, players in the "normal" area of the arena can still shoot and kill the player in the "out-of-bound" area, and vice versa. So it's not like you totally glitch out...normal gameplay rules and physics still apply...you are just on the "wrong side of the fence".
Morrowind (XBOX)...both the standard and GOTY edition. The game will usually freeze on me at least once per day if I play for an extended period of time. I've never owned a console game that was this unstable. Granted, it's a remarkable accomplishment given the size of the environments and depth, but damn! :smt017 And yes, I've tried all the suggested "fixes" such as clearing the XBOX's memory cache and deleting the old save files, etc. :smt019
Im going to have to go with Unreal championship for xbox. Im not sure if AI's geting stuck in walls or you getting stuck in walls is worse.
Serious Sam on the XBOX (early pressings) were notoriously buggy. I heard they either didn't work, or crashed frequently. A later production run fixed these issues.
3 xbox games in a row in a "buggiest game ever" contest. And my friend asks me why I haven't got one yet.
yes, xbox haven't really good stuff (in term of quality and gameplay...) just graphics..... i own one only for halo. and if i was knowing that halo was going to pcs i dont think i would have a xbox...
Let's make it 4 Xbox games in a row! I don't know if this really considers a bug, but it's damn annoying for sure. To use a lightgun to play Silent Scope Complete, you have to set either/both the in-game brightness setting or your TV's brightness to ultra high for the gun to work. It makes the picture so bland it's like you are watching your TV through a thick layer of fog and smog. I wonder if the QA people even tried to play the game with a lightgun during the testing.
New adition to the list: Driv3r Honestly, the game is simply not finished, or even optimized. There are stupid bugs like you getting stuck, dying because of nothing, lamp posts that appear from nowhere making you crash your car... Just go to www.eurogamer.net and read their review. If someone bought this game for PS2 or XBOX, i suggest you to sue them. The PC can be patched, but what about the console gamers?
