Its not expecting too much, its expecting something different than what you expect. There is nothing wrong with that, and to blast a reviewer for not getting it isn't the right thing to do either. The reason sports games score higher? Guess what, they have a sports guy (most of the time). He wouldn't touch Nights if someone paid him to, but the new, little features DO excite someone like that, and there isn't anything wrong with that. Just don't read that person's review. Simple
What's wrong with easy games, though? There are plenty of hard games out there if you want them. I don't mind the easy games if they're fun to play. Portal 2 was ultimately an easy game, and that was the best game of that year, in my opinion. Even some popular older games are easy. Rockman 3 was by far the easiest game of the Rockman series, with Air Man the only difficult boss, and it's a plenty good game.
The current sham is popularized from both sides. Game makers release clunky messes filled with excessive tutorials, then trolls go spreading falsehoods how "easy" the games are. It's troll BS. Modern games are NOT EASIER. You could find countless easy classics.
Yep, I really did mean Air Man in Rockman 3. Air Man is easy in Rockman 2 because of Wood Man's weapon, of which there is no equivalent in Rockman 3. Even with slide, he's quite hard.
Oh yes they are. It's not troll BS. It should be obvious to anyone who has been gaming since the 80's or 90's that most games were much harder back then. Difficulty was part of the fundamental game design. It gave people their money's worth since they actually had to get good at it in order to progress, and it made it harder for kids to beat in one rental. There were definitely some easy games back then, but it was nothing like today.
Yeah, I see your point but instead of just slagging a game the reviewer should say something along the lines of "This isn't my type of game". I slag sport games on my site but I always write that I don't like sport games. So at least the person reading knows why the opinion is so low. The thing that makes a lot of games easier today is the fact that you have no lives. Die and instant repawn as many times as you like. Not all games are like this but there's a great deal of them.
Prety sure I encountered some games (Xbox era IIRC) which have an option called " In-game tutorial: ON / OFF ". This should be enforced upon developers maybe....
To be fair though a lot of games back in the day were harder because programmers used cheap tactics to cover for simple AI.
OK, to be honest I never played Mega Man 3 that far. Always found it inferior to 2 in every way. A lot of that was because there was a lot of "unfair" difficulty used back then, a good example would be the last Wily boss in MM2. How would you figure out that you're supposed to use Bubble Lead on it? If you had no ammo for it, you'd be screwed. Meh, Borderlands 1 is one of the most boring games I've ever played...
Quoted for truth. I bought that expecting some serious fun action but I ended up being bored to shit. Still finished it mind you.
