The worst problem is the Japanese did not have thyroid protecting iodine tablets distributed, it's very bad situation.

Also, there is now gas and food shortage (Japanese have very fast product turnover so not much back stock)
    and now low power.

The volcano in Hawaii emptied like someone pulled a plug.

The lava just drained back down into the earth, and FAST.

I would warn all our friends in the ring of fire to prepare and have
food, water and an escape plan.

On a serious note, hope Japan's economy doesn't get hit too hard from this, the death of Japan's video game's, is almost the death of gaming in it's entirety for me.

I hope he's still alright. Apparently he phoned with his family about two hours after the quake, but days have passed without any news from him.
But as you said, battery power of cell phones and working internet is a big problem in the destroyed area.

ASSEMbler mentioned we had three members based in the Sendai area, who are the other two? Did they check in yet? Who's still missing?

Well I'm glad that some people got my point. It just amazes me that someone actually took the time to find the quotes from Americans only, made a website about it, then distributed the links. And what's equally astonishing is that people are passing around the links without even the slightest clue of the type of person who would think to start something like that. And to top it all off, the poster is giving it as a reason why I should be hated. Sorry, but you ran across the wrong American.

Now back to the power plants... From what I've heard the earthquake alone wasn't the problem. The plant detected the earthquake and took appropriate measures. It was the tsunami after that which knocked out the backup measures. So it was one natural disaster following another that caused the result we're seeing. The plant could handle one, but not two.

In end end all 3 reactors will probably be lost. Hopefully they can contain as much as possible. What's sad is that the people who are working the hardest to contain it are probably not going to live to see their next birthday.
