Last I heard, there are reports of very high levels of radiation in the sea... but it's an iodine isotope with a half-life of 8 days. That does not equal disaster in my mind, but I'm far from an expert.

Yeah, and they don't know where it came from! However, not that many hours before, they were saying that the reactor in unit 1 may have a hole in it and be leaking.

Hmm, leaking reactor... radioactive sea... surely you don't have to be a nuclear expert to link the two?

Incidentally, were there any developers in areas affected by the tsunami?

It is a Tokyo-based country, with a little Osaka (Capcom) and Kyoto (Nintendo) on the side. They have redefined "all eggs in one basket". They talked about moving at least the judicial offices out of the city but apparently there was no easy way to move their concubines AND families.

That's like 7 months from now. Surely there will be no Japan left by then.

Actually, yes, you do. The radiation they found is probably NOT from the reactors, but from some lab in a town that got flooded by the tsunami. That's the biggest issue with floods of any kind - they rip through businesses and labs and schools and carry off a LOT of toxic materials. It's POSSIBLE someone even had a barrel or two of nuclear waste stored in their facility and it was washed off by the tsunami.

Every tiny "sudden" bit of radiation detected anywhere in the world seems to make people point fingers at the Japanese reactors when it's far more likely the culprit is much closer to home.

Okay, I can conclude that the two who were missing from checking in here are dead.
Unless some person can shed a light on it.

Could they have moved? Could they be doing other things than checking out ASSEMbler forums? (there's not much net access in parts of Sendai)

Hopefully. There is still a shitload of internet access problems let alone power accessibility problems. I'm going to wait until I hear confirmation one way or another rather than pronounce them dead.
