The Earthquake Check In thread

Nobody but an_turtar was ever mentioned to be from Sendai and, as gp pointed out, PhantasyStar had already moved away some months before the quake. I think ASSEMbler said we had three members from Sendai, it would help if he could elaborate if this is still up to date??

Phantasy Star may very well be dead, but I was chatting with him on Skype at the exact moment of the Earthquake, trying to get him to send over nude shots of his new ho. He also emailed me last night asking for advice of some sort but I was drunk. Unless something really bad happened in the last 10 hours, he's probably okay, too.

We wouldn't be proper westerners if we didn't panic and make wild assumptions though, so let's imagine this third person.

Uhh, nearly 6,000 dogs left behind? WTF? Surely you know where in your house your dog is, and you could grab it in a matter of seconds? If someone told me I had to leave my cat behind, I'd punch them in the face!

 

I'm sorry, but a dog is a dog, and a cat is a cat. Though we love them, I wouldn't be picking up a golden retreiver and running away from a tsunami with it cradled in my arms.

Same if one fell into an iced-lake. Every year, some idiot drowns trying to save his dog, which swims about for a bit and then hops out later.

 

Then you simply don't understand how some of us feel about our pets.

 

I wouldn't die with my damn dog, no. I can't understand people that carry their pets around or kiss them on the mouth.

 

I loved my cats in the UK and would try to take them wih me BUT if doing that would clearly put my own life at risk then I'm sorry but the cats would have to stay. Yes, I'd feel like shit and hate myself but you have to understand that there is so much more to live for.

Not everyone was home, nor were a lot of them aware of how long they'd not be allowed back. Also, where are you going to put your pets when you're staying in a shelter?

 

I kinda can understand both sides well. And atm, I'm inconclusive of how I would have handled this situation in real life.

Anyway, if anyhow possible, I would had to try to accommodate the pet somewhere.
Although very difficult in Japan.

 

Last time I was in a major earthquake, the cat was the first one out of the building anyway. Dashed out before I had a chance to grab it and turned up the following morning.

But that was in Italy and the cat was used to being outside most of the time, I don't know if it would have been the same if I lived in a small apartment.
