"Don't worry, The Verve are recording a new album" - lol

I thought this Hitler clip had been done to death, but that was pretty funny actually.

To be honest, you can't call a band 'the greatest of our generation' when they produced 2 albums of complete tosh, bargain bucket worthy (Be Here Now and Standing on The Shoulders...).

    Sorry.

    WTF!!!!

Have you ever even met and talked to Damon??? (I followed Blur way before they were famous)

You are seriously fVcked up if you think he's a 'moaning little bitch'. The guy's an artist, a proper artist, an original, an innovator, just like all good artists are.

Oasis are Noel, who was a roadie for Inspiral Carpets and someone with a real passion for music. Liam is just his brother. Creation records originally saw a spark in Oasis, but that was before they got took over by SONY. Oasis were never more than a one hit wonder in reality (cigarettes and alcohol, possibly?)
They went on to emulate The Beatles, closer than any other group dared go, it paid off commercially, but morally it sucked balls.

...A classic example was Noel doing Setting Sun with The Chemical Brothers. Quality writing from the Chemical's, great vocals from Noel. And Liam has done...................................................feck all!

*rant over from a proper music critic*

Thank goodness I have never been a fanboy of Depeche Mode, I have been a fan of them. But no where near a fanatic fan, or fanboy.

Bigger than Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Guns 'N' Roses, U2, REM, etc...?

WTF? Clearly they were not the biggest band. From greatest band in our generation, to biggest in 90's, to simply a good band. You can be a fan, but cool down these outrageous claims man.

My goodness me! Oasis the biggest "rock" band of the 90's.

    A) They were and remained indie, not 'rock' for a start.

    B) Biggest in their own eyes perhaps, but in the eyes of the rest of the World they were wannabe Beatles with huge egos, huge eyebrows and stupid haircuts.

I admit they had 1 album that was great and 2 which were mediocre, but they were by no means the biggest band on the indie scene, they just happened to be the most obnoxious. They also happened to become famous when the indie scene was in it's dying throws.

Given a few seconds I bet most people into indie could name several bands who were far better than Oasis without having to even think about it.

    C) Blur.... don't even go there! You are merely falling into the old Oasis v Blur trap which was evidently Liam's & Noel's egos splashing around all over the place as they attempted to square up to one of the best indie bands around. Fail! He soon shut up when he realised he was onto a loser.

Blur is a band that anyone with an ounce of musicality about them knows is seriously talented and frankly had a unique sound, unlike Oasis.

It's like comparing caviar against cheap Supermarket ready made custard. Don't bother!

    D) Bono. Love him or loath him, I think U2 have far more of a claim to having been the (and remaining) one of the biggest 'rock' bands to have ever come out of the UK. Far bigger, far further reaching, influential & yes, talented (inspite of Bono's attitudes) than Oasis. If U2 ever split up you'll have a national day of mourning and people will forgive Bono his foibles. I think I heard more than a faint cheer when Oasis split up!

Swallow the bitter pill and admit it - you'll have to accept it one day, so it might as well be sooner rather than later. ;-)

I agree to most of what Parris says, except that U2 are Irish, not from the UK.

Have you seen the interview with Noel about that track on the Chemical Brothers singles DVD? Very funny.

Doesn't matter their geographical location, they signed to Island Records which if I remember rightly was an English (thus UK) owned label (based in Jamaica), but is now part of Universal. So, Irish or not they appear on the accounts for UK recording industry.

But you are right, they are Irish, not British. My sincere apologies to anyone Irish or related to the U2 lads

Honestly, music is a very personnal taste.

Unfortunately, on this last decade music went to become all commercial garbage. Apart from some indie bands, the rest is all shit. I don't understand how someone can enjoy something like those "emo" bands...

That's why i'm excited to see "Faith No More" live, tomorrow, for the first time ever. A band that was a big hit in the 80's! Yes, i'm going to the concert, mostly because their 80's stuff. Something i know was actually decent.

Anyway, the main issue people have against Oasis, is that in 1995 / 1996, the media was all over them because they were the "new thing". All comparisons with Beatles, disputes with Blur... all that was intensified by the media. Most of the media cared more about the arguments, discussions, fights, "impact phrases" than the music itself.

If it were 10 years before, these kind of shit wouldn't had become so big. And because all that, most people that don't know much about the music of the band always think "Those guys who think they are better than The Beatles. They are so full of shit", and so on.

I put that shit on the side and care more about the music really. All i always liked Oasis music. Plus it was Oasis that went back to make these big stadium gigs.

I love that cover, it just works so well.

And here are a few of my favourite live performances, if anyone is interested...

Married With Children - Southend Cliffs Pavillion 1995

Whatever - Including a typical "Liam Gallagher" moment. - Maine Road '96

Stand by me - Not really live but is still a great acoustic version. There is a slightly higher quality version somewhere, just can't find it at the moemnt.

Falling Down - Wembley last year

I have a load more favourite live performances but the list would just go on for too long. =P
